We do not have a website yet.
I have worked in the floral industry for 31 yrs.
I did not receive any formal training.
I was surfing for information and the link to this site came up in my search.
I am looking for others in the floral business who would like to share information.
I have 31 yrs experience.
The flower shop is in a commercial building.

Do you own the shop? How did you happen to choose the name for your shop?

Hi Connie,
I guess I'm the manager, and a little more. Janey calls me "right arm", "partner", everything but, savior. lol. The shop name comes from it's location in the beautiful, historic Perry Hotel. The shop is new. Our work relationship spans decades. We are quite excited about this new direction our lives have taken.

Thank you, Amy. It's nice to be here.

Hi everyone,
I suppose I should make my introduction a little less sterile. I was a bit shy about what to fill out on the intro form. :)

I've worked in the floral industry for a long time. Even after all these years, I still love it. Just before Christmas, my friend Janey opened a new shop and invited me to work for her. She'd been away from the business for several years. I worked for her at one time, years ago, and we've always had a great relationship.

It's been an adventure to say the least. There have been a couple setbacks. ie: Cooler died in the middle of the night and fried all the flowers. UPS shipped flowers arrived frozen solid. And the worst was being blackballed, which I'll talk about in another thread later on. Suffice to say; 3 other florists in town were worried when Janey began to compete with them again.
Anyway, it's just a little shop right now. We have a suite in an historic hotel. We are full service but our focus is mainly weddings & events.

Getting the shop up and running in spite of all the trouble sent me looking for resources and that's when I found this site. I'm hoping to find many new friends to share experiences with.

Welcome! This is a great place to be.

Welcome to the community. We won't "blackball" you here. ;)

Hi Tracy,
Is it cold there too? Honestly, I don't recall a winter when it has been this bad...or maybe I'm getting old?
Thanks for the welcome. :)

OK, I've got a question about the forum and the FAQ doesn't address it. May I ask what the 'Thanks" button is for?
*Novice forum member is burning with curiosity. Wants to test it but, terrified of embarassing possibilities.* lol

It is a way to say that you agree with what someone said. ou used to have to send them a PM (private message) to acknowledge a good thought or helpful piece of advice...this makes it easier.

Just remember you can't ask any question (or make any novice mistake) that has not been made before (probably by me).

Just jump on in! The most valuable tool here is the "search" button, where you can search previous conversations on ANY topic imaginable.

And ask questions. :) Most of us are more than happy to help with an answer or several.
