I did this today and was really scared how it would turn out but, I love it!! I just had to share it with you guys :)
It was really easy and it is something uniqe for casket sprays. Well, at least it is unique for us...

Heather :)

I really love this idea - lovely, just very very pretty Heather. Was that something the family requested - the candles, or your suggestion?

tracy

I can't take credit for it. The family saw a centerpiece that had candles in it and came up with the idea. I found a picture of a spray w/ candles in one of my sympathy books and we went from there. A joint effort of sorts ;)

The ribbon isn't printed, sadly...I want one of those machines!! I just use the John Henry stick on scripts. The ribbon is the unwired bridal satin. I usually use the wired but, my supplier was out of the ivory :( We charged $325 for the piece...if I had it to do again I would have charged more. It was easy but very, very time consuming. Also, they wanted a TON of ribbons...there were 7 in total!!

:) Heather

thanks for sharing your picture, Heather. I haven't seen one with candles in it before.. In which sympathy book did you find the picture? It's not just a casket piece, so much more meaningful and symbolic for the family with the candles added..absloutely beautiful!

It's item CT8-21 in 'Classic Tributes - the best of the Tribute Collection' by John Henry. We've done it locally too, it's a fairly popular look here.

Beautiful casket spray ....

what did you use for the base ..... regular saddle? And did you have to do anything else to make sure it sat on the casket securely?

Pam,

This is the saddle I used. There is a large and a small, I used the large.

I secured the candles with hyacinth stakes and cut them down so they wouldn't show. Then I taped around the stakes with waterproof tape to secure the candles even more.

I didn't know what saddle to use but I knew if I used a regular saddle it would fall apart. The Oasis saddles are more expensive but, I tipped that baby over to drain it and the candles didn't budge an inch.

The base of the saddle has two foam strips that run down it and it has a wide "stance" when we put it on top the casket I tried to slide it and it wouldn't move. It was heavy as all get out though...I had to have my hubby carry it!

Heather,

The casket spray is outstanding! We have a Fiorella ribbon printing machine that we are looking to sell - let me know if you're interested. How's the cooler working out?

Barb

AHHHHH!! Barb how are you!?!?! The cooler is amazing...couldn't be better! I will send you a PM on the ribbon maker. You are so awesome :)

It's so great to see you here!

Beautiful piece Heather. Hadn't thought of candles for a casket piece but it really looks great. Thanks for sharing. Great idea.

Will the candles be lit during the service and if so do you have to get permission from the funeral director? The reason I ask is the I had done a candle lite wedding a few years ago and nobody had asked at the church if they could be lit. Unfortunately because of fire regulations they could not. Very beautiful look.

I called the pastor of the church before I told the family that I could make the spray and he said it would be no problem. The funeral director is my husband so I handed him a lighter and told him to light them before both services ;)

But, normally, yes you would want to get permission from both the church and the funeral director before doing a piece like this :) Some churches do not allow lit candles and in that case I would just use the battery operated/flameless candles for the same effect.
