Hey Flowerchat gang! I am just hoping I can get some feedback on this new site. I still have some more product to add but want to know what you all think about the look and feel before I point my primary domain name from my old site to this new one. My old site gets good traffic but it's time to give it an overhaul and I'm a little nervous about how this one will perform in the search engines as well as conversion rates. If you could just tell me what you think on a scale of 1-10. (1 being crappy & 10 being the best). Or just feel free to add comments. I would appreciate it. http://www.bloominbee.net

I would have to suggest changing the background? It seems a bit dizzying to me. Overall I would give it a 6....sorry!

I think the background is too busy...not the prettiest of colors,
the links to where I can order are confusing...I can click on the moving designs but if I am in a hurry I do not want to wait for the "right" picture to come along...all the categories to ordering under the Welcome are dead..did you mean to have it that way? Websites are always a work in progress...good luck on your tweaking!

Buzz,

I like the yellow text on the black background (much better than the usual white on black). But the red and blue text over the black is a lot harder to read. I somewhat disagree with the others that the floral (tapestry?) behind the black may be too busy. How about possibly making it lighter like more of a watermark?

I also like your header design. Overall, I'd say you have a great start.

I would get rid of the panels/graphic at the sides and just go with a solid colour perhaps. The word elegant, the font needs to be bolder or something, as does the word buzz. Perhaps too many colours going on(the background to text is blue on some pages and pink on others) Your pics on the home page look nice.

Love the scrolling arrangements across the top! Beautiful!

Don't love the black background :( I think you were going for striking but I think it's comes out as really dark-and really isn't consistent with your logo. Very hard to read the purple and red text on the black. Hurts the eyes.

Lot's of good content on the sight! Had fun going through it!

Sandy

Confusing:

I want to look at pictures first, and prices, and then decide if I want to order flowers or not.

Could not do this with your site. YOu will lose a lot of buyers this way (IMHO).

The rolling pictures at the top give me a blur & a headache....make them stop please???

Red text on a black background does not show up well. Yellow worked much better against the black.

In general i have to say i like it although i would agree with some of the points the others have come up with.

The pink block i would change to yellow to match, i perhaps would also change the side panels to yellow as well. If your company logo is a bee then i would match these colours. Even yellow with bees all the way down would perhaps be more fitting. Love the bee logo though have to say!!

I too had a good look around, i like the scrolling flowers at thet top but would not think that i would have to click on one to order. Quite confusing on how to order but then i am very easily confused. This though could be true of many customers.

Good luck with tweaking, i am still getting mine there so i feel your pain ;)

The site doesn't match your name or what I think your brand is...your designs are great! The website doesn't follow, however. Get rid of the multi-colored vertical banners on the side and go with a light color, not black. I don't like the pink block, either.

Here's my suggestion: 1-800 Flowers, Proflowers, Teleflora, etc., they all pay BIG bucks to great web developers to create sites that sell for them. Follow thier lead. Go visit thier sites. Dissect them. Look for what they all have in common and how they are displaying things. Then follow suit. That's what we did! My husband built our site and then Media99 built the shopping cart. Our web biz is growing by leaps and bounds...Feb 09 is up 100% over Feb 08.

Good luck!

I showed it to a non florist (consumer)...

first reaction, it hurt their eyes. They were ok with the yellow on black part, but thought there should be more white (like you have behind the bee).

second reaction, they couldn't figure out how to buy flowers...said they would leave the website to find another website where it's easy to find what they want.

If Goldfish's theory about small business websites is true, this one will make a million :)

Personally, though, I found it very dated, awkward and hard on the eyes. You should design from funtion first, then graphics. It looks like you threw together some graphic stuff (or abused a template for a while) then tried to fit the functionality into your design.

What do you want the site to do? What do you want visitors to do? Think that through first, then worry about how it looks.

Ryan, please tell those of us who missed or forgot what Goldfish theory was about homemade websites.

Thank you.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Several of the things you suggested I was thinking about changing too and I'll definitely be making some updates over the next few days. Your all a great help when it comes to stuff like this. Thanks!!!

Goldie's preposterous theory was that crappy looking websites will perform better than slick professional looking ones.

Yup, uh-huh.....:itchy:

If I can make a suggestion in a different aspect.

Two things to keep in mind - what does the customer want and is it right there. There are a lot of articles that talk about the "3 second rule" In essence, if the customer does not see what they are looking for in 3 seconds, they move on.

Second - get some customers to look at it for you also. Ask them to share with you "how" they order flowers and see if your steps line up.

I know that Pro Flowers is not a friend of anyone here, but reports constantly show they have THE highest conversion rate of any website in any industry in the US. Take a look at their site. The last report I saw on them - 46% of people who go to their site end up placing orders. There might be some ideas that you could borrow from them.

Also, since your current site is working well for you, don't forget to keep some things that are similar to what they are used to. Nothing frustrates me more than to go to a familiar site only to find out I have to learn all over how to navigate it.

I hope this helps.
