I am an Agricultural Education teacher in Mesa, AZ. I coach a floral design team that competes against other high school floral teams several times a year. I have students who are very talented and many hope to enter this field as a profession. I started arranging flowers for friends' weddings about 15 years ago. It is really fun when a hobby translates into something you get paid to do. I enjoy expanding my knowledge of this industry through my work with my students. Working with my floral design students is one of the highlights of my day!

I don't think we have had a floral design teacher at the high school level here as of yet.

Prior to your coaching of students - Have you worked in or had previous experience in the field of professional floral design?

Are you familiar with the organizations for our industry - such as Society of American Florists, American Academy of Floriculture, American Institute of Floral Designers, Or worked with our been involved with any of your local, state, or regional florist associations?

As a teacher of vocational agriculture and a person of influence to the future of our industry, welcome. As a former FFA member I can say that FFA and 4H were very influential in my choice of career. I was blessed with teachers who encouraged me to learn from every seminar or class that came along. The industry needs talented and enthusiastic teachers who can steer the students onto further education with professional groups. Investigate your regional chapter of AIFD or symposium when it comes to their area. I know you are not a traditional fit for flowerchat but I hope it can help you with advice and knowledge for your students and yourself.

Welcome to the community. I look forward to hearing more about you and your students.

If I am not too badly mistaken - Possibly some of our AIFD members can verify - but Kelly Marble AIFD is also involved with FFA.
