I have been researching floral design schools to find classes to post on PFEIG. There are many "institutes" and schools out there, but I am trying to figure out which ones really are for FLORISTS. Many of them seem to cater to hobbyists. Of course I have Phil Rulloda's school listed, but are there any other ones that any of you can recommend that really are for florists?

Thanks.

I went to American Floral Art in Chicago.
Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Excellent program for florists. I think it is a one year course.

Education partners

The AIFD Education Partners program is a great resource. The association evaluates the curriculum and teaching staff of many schools to ensure professional presentation. As you can see the list is short. Not everyone is able to meet the requirements.

Of course, I am a bit biased since we are on the list.

Sarah, check pages 104-105 of the June 2009 Flowers&, it has a comprehensive listing of 45 floral design schools, with contact info. Email me if you need a copy!

Dale and I both went to Koehler and Dramm Institute of Floristry... and we paid for an employee to go there. Really worth it! Ardith Beveridge, AAF, AIFD, PFCI, CAFA, MSF is an awesome internationally respected florist and instructor!

Leanne,

You are still in Seattle??? Is Betty still teaching?

Betty and Jon are still teaching and we love them! The Seattle satellite classroom has merged with the Portland Learning Center. You will find us in Seattle with periodic seminars in 2010. Watch the website at the first of the year for the most up to date listing.
