We all know and recognize that there are ladies in our industry who have earned the title "Floral First Lady" - ladies like Frankie Shelton, Eulalah Overmeyer, our own CHR, among many others......but several presidential first ladies have had a distinct influence on our industry.

SO, Who is your favorite "floral first lady and why"

For me, Jackie Kennedy - She was the first of the presidential first ladies to bring flowers into the Whitehouse as everyday decoration. She also championed flowers for sympathy when she sent a basket of orchids to a funeral even when the "in leiu of" was used.

If it says "in lieu of", then doesnt that mean that you are not invited to send flowers??

I dont think we really have that first lady thing over here.. But i may be wrong, i nearly was once...

Personally my choices are of people who use their brains and power for the greater good... if flowers are in the mix great.

Eleanor Roosevelt (history tells me she was a great woman), Rosalyn Carter, Hillary Clinton, and I'm looking forward to learning more about Michelle Obama.

Yeah i agree, our country was in massive mourning when she died. I dont think anyone else would ever achieve that in the UK. JMHO.

I think nearly the whole world mourned her death.

To be honest V, you have opened my eyes to that one, did not realise that she was so well thought of over here. Obviously i was aware she had some kind of impact but not that much. Glad to hear it! Her sons are just great i think.

Lady Diana did indeed have an influence on our industry - I cannot begin to tell you how many times We spoke to brides who wanted a huge, lush, cascade in the style she carried.

Sadly, as great as some of our presidential first ladies were and are........Very few, if any, had the degree of influence that she did.

Princess Diana was/is an icon and continues to shine brightly. Palms, she had a huge following world wide.

There are still many who, while they wish Prince Charles well, don't tolerate Camilla very well.

another sad sad alcohol casualty.

nothing less...

Another favorite Presidential First Lady who had a distinct influence on our Floral Industry was Nancy Reagan. She was among the few who routinely brought in guest designers to help the normal staff of designers at the White house.
