I have a bride who wants the very dark moonvista carns, she however wants the minis, I have been told they are available in both the spray and the mini single stem, however I have also been told that the minis come in much lighter than the large ones, shes very insistent on the dark eggplant color, any one with any experience on these please advise me???
Shes on a budget thats very tight.. and so I think these are still her best bet but, she definately wants them that dark
Thanks for your HELP in advance

On the sprays, I think it depends on the time of year as to the depth of the color. Best to contact your supplier, that can contact them directly....

I have seen them, and gotten them for weddings, even recently, but I can't compare the depth of color currently. We simply used what we got.

thanks I just did call my supplier and was told that generally they do come in lighter than the large ones.....trying to think of anything else naturally that dark....unsprayed ..she wants no paint used...any ideas I am open!!

If she doesn't want anything sprayed maybe you could show her the color it actually is (maybe from a pic online) and say this is it! It's like, there are only so many things you can do for her. I have never seen another company that does purple carns.

We did a Rock Star Glam wedding sample using the larger ones that also come in the the mini's. I hope your Bride is using an additonal color as they look morose just by themselves...something for a funeral if you have nothing to make them "pop". We are using bright orange and neon Volkenfrieden..it really does rock!

The florigene mini in the darkest shade is Moon Shadow. It is not a dark as the Vista, more in line with the Moon Shade variety. I do not know if you have used the florigene carns before, but they are somewhat smaller in head size than most carnations. Depending on your design needs and why she wants minis, the Moon Vistas may work just fine, especially if the color is the most important aspect.

I notice these are usually a bit smaller than regular carns and maybe that will help your bride. Get some in and have this conversation with her. Sher is right they can look a bit gloomy. Good luck.

OMG - Another "OLD TIMER" trick - Law-dy Mercy - How many of those carnations have I feathered over the years?

Prob'ly too many ta count.

We have floragene on a standing order. I have never seen the minis as dark as the darkest eggplant regular carns that come in the box.

This bride just needs to realize that she is limiting her choices and might need to go with the larger ones. If they don't come in that size and she doesn't want them spraypainted what does she expect you to do?

Two other items:

1. These carns need time to open. You might want to get them a week in advance so they have time to open.

2. They are more expensive than regular carns so you might want to keep that in mind (if you didn't already know that is!).

You remove the carnation head......keeping the calyx on........lay the carnation on the table.......take your knife and slice lengthwise top to bottom from the top of the bloom down through the calyx.

Depending on how large you need your bloom, you can repeat the procedure by slicing through the half bloom you just sliced.....ending up with four sections of feathered carnation.

You then pick up one section......tape it before you wire......MAKE SURE THE PETALS DO NOT SEPARATE FROM THE CALYX WALL........then insert your wire through the tape wrapping the calyx and petals......and then tape as you would normally tape a flower for a corsage.

FEATHERING is not something you can do with a glued corsage.

I just did a wedding and used 3 of the colors.. warning they are SMALL(full size) I had to order extra and tt was still not enough

Thanks for all your great suggestions, I have talked to the bride again and think I have her convinced we either need to use the large one or I may keep it to myself and "feather" and No to one of you who asked if she was using a color to pop, other than limo and white...those are her choices...I made suggestions including lime green buttons so it was still Neutral so to speak but she wants "simple elegance" and to this end...she is getting it, her girls colors are that dark eggplant, seeing a sample if I had not known otherwise I would have said navy blue, but I knew otherwise...it was eggplant.
So I have talked her into using white carns some tipped and limonium, surrounded by salal....her own bouguet is white roses, white callas, limo, mini or(feathered moonvista carns) tipping some white ones for bouts etc etc....its not gonna be my fav wedding by a long shot but ITS WHAT SHE WANTS and we allllllllll know...THE BRIDE IS ALWAYS RIGHT
and yes to whomever said they are more expensive, I did know that as well...she gave up some callas for the carns can you believe it??
sighs....all in a days work

Be sure to add to the price if you feather your carns.

It's a lot of labor! And if ya never done it before, about a 1/4 of the way through your task, you'll say to yourself "Why in the hell did I start this" Especially if you have a lot to feather.

It a very old school trick that was done back in the day when "pixie carns" were not so available.

Thanks goodness for progress.

wondering if I get the minis that are lighter and spray them with a dark eggplant spray if they will work for her without the work for me...I talked to her again this afternoon and hinted at this being a possibility...she said if its a last resort we could try, I have another wedding with these in them first weekend of august so I am gonna give it a whirl, and I will let ya all know how that works...thanks again for so many good ideas

I remember feathering carns at the chicago floral art school 25 year ago. I thought they were just being cheep so we wouldn't use so much product. i'll bet I havn't done it half a dozen times in the last 25 years.
