Got an order for the FTD M1 special via the mercury system. Order total was $54.00 total. This special is $62.49 CDN.

So I ask for more money, they say no and I reject for lack of funds. They resend, I repeat. So they call, pi$$ed because we're rejecting their orders and we're their preferred florist. So I patiently explain that this special is $62.49 CDN and she says "No, $49.99." I said "Nope, not according to our FTD book." After a battle of "no, yes" I get fed up and say "No, $49.99 is the US price. There was a pause as the sender realizes that they've been underselling their product. *sighs*

RTFM people, RTFM.

I guess their bottom line must be in "Red Ink" if they can't price it out themselves.

Help me out here....

Just curious, as a good friend of mine in Toronto, told me if I send 50.00 US for a DZ roses vased, My customer would be very pleased...

We has go to do all the dirty work #$%^& calculating the exchange and then allowing for the taxes............also the exchange is different depending on the wire service???
But to answer your question if you send me $50.00 for roses I would fill your order for $65.98 Canadian and my roses are $55.00 boxed or $70.00 arranged.

Thanks....

I should have said 56.50, as I forgot the delivery chg....

Interesting on your price difference, as mine are the same boxed or vased, and been thinking that Boxed should be more, as they take way more time...but we very rarely get request for boxed...

Have a great rest of the war...

I do not see how Boxed takes more time than vased????

I can get those(Boxed or Wrapped in Cello) for that matter out the door faster than Vasing a dozen.

Boxed Roses are still Elegant in the Gentlemens mind today...don't you think?
Isn't that what seperates US from THEM?

I offer however they want it wrapped, vased, squeezed, darkened, smashed and what else they can come up with?

Oh yea this was about a FTD pricing issue as in US Dollars verses Canadan Dollars.

Nevermind....

;)

I'm with Boss on this one. I can whip out a doz vased much faster than boxed. By the time I tube them, layer them , line the box, tie a ribbon around it and put a bow on it.... Naaa much quicker to do a vase. I charge the same for boxed or vased also.

Um, oh, ah, what ??

If I remember right, it was (mine) simply a request for info...AND...

I do believe that FTD gives a better conversion rate than TF if I'm not mistaken..could be tho, I was ONCE:D

Doz roses wrapped / boxed:
Handled by a junior = less labour $$$
Boxed premade and lined by child labourers for $.25 ea or so
No tubing ... we use rose blocks
They are used to the task, so faster than vasing.

We thought about charging the same, but after costing ... cheaper to wrap / box ... so we charge less.

Now that we offer wrapped or boxed over 50% just want them wrapped. Personally I like the look a lot more, as you can see the flowers. Whydoes our country like to hide the flowers so much? I know the box thing is a tradition, but still.

Since coming here we now ask when they will be going in water. A large majority say right away or real soon. The other ones we tube now and yes it takes forever and is a pain in the butt. Would rather vase ten than box one.

We still charge $35.00 boxed (bb NOT incl) and $50.00 vased in inexpensive clear glass vase with bb, greenery, and bow (sometimes bow). Nicer vase of course is more.

Around here many think $35.00 is a lot, but we get a LOT and I mean a LOT more walk-in traffic just pricing since we moved up the street 4 blocks five years ago. Closer to intersection I guess. ???? Thinking about going back to carrying sweethearts for those guys, but don't have good priceon them around here.

Boxed $42.00 Arranged $45.00
Yeah I know....LOL
usually pay about .82 cents per stem

AN ALTERNATIVE TO TUBING!

Sandwich baggies are very inexpensive! Insert a left over scrap of oasis, in the bag, poke the stems through the baggie into the oasis... doesn't leak, easy to do, and works boxed or wrapped!

Have a great rest of the war...

The Mother's Day war is now over......so here's my take on the price difference between boxed and vased.

Price of box tissue tubes or oasis slightly less than a vase. (about $0.75)
We also use more greens in vase than we would put in box.
Time to do a box or vase is the same if you consider making the box folding tissue and filling water tubes or preparing oasis etc. However the price of labour is less because we can use non design staff for these jobs, including packing the roses.

But have you ever sold a dozen beautiful long stem roses boxed only to later seen how your customer nicely?? designed them in their one of a kind antique crystal vase???? now compare that picture with one of the vases you made up at Mother's Day......

You have a great talent......and darn it you should be paid royally for it when you use it!!! Your customer can box the roses but they sure can't design them the way you do......and that's why I charge more for arranged than boxed roses.

I'm wiping BBJ's forehead on THIS one....

ANYONE can box/wrap a dozen ANYTHING....BUT, it takes REAL talent to create...and I'm in HIS corner of the ring on THIS issue!!

we charge the same for boxed or vased. I would rather vase roses in a heart beat because I know how they have been treated when they leave the store.

The most complaints we get are from boxed flowers. Yes, we tube, send care instructions, presv etc. But people don't read and just plop those roses in a dirty vase, don't recut the stems or even use the presv.

Vasing saves on returns and as a girl, I'd rather be wowed with a vase of roses with glitters spray, filler flowers and ribbons and glitter branches, than a box of work.
