If you are a real florist and you have had it up to here with order gatherers and their dishonest business practices, you may want to see this website. A friend sent it to me the other day, and it made my day – I hope it does yours!

It was put together by florists who were frustrated by websites who claim to be real florists in real cities (their cities!), who claim “free delivery” when they can’t provide it, and by listening to customer complaints about their experiences with these websites.

The site explains what an order gatherer is, the role of the wire services, and about the “free delivery” ruse. They share some consumer stories, talk about FTD and 1-800 flowers, and tell consumers how to find a real florist. They also tell consumers where to complain. The Florist Detectives strive to make the details of their stories as accurate as possible, and they welcome florists to put a link to their site on their websites.

My apologies if you already know about this site, but for those who don’t, enjoy, and spread the word if you see fit.

and to one of the florists' who uncovered, produced proof, and complained loud enough to get one phony "shop" kicked out of their major wire service :)

Say hello to Mark Smith aka BOSS, Spirit Man, the creator of Florist Detective!

Joan
Hey BOSS,
I love Florist Detective - one of the first things we did when we put up our website was to provide a link to the site.
We also have a "buyers beware" article that proved to be quite popular with one of the order gatherers - so much so that they threatened legal action if we did not remove their name from the article! Since the info is in the public domain (and we don't scare easily ) we left it up.

I also have a link to florist detective on my website. It's just another example of what you can learn from the flowerchat forum.
I did my own blog on why it is best to use local florists from what I have learned at florist detective and this forum and because of another thread on FSN I noticed they had listed a florist in another city. The florist was by no stretch of the imagination "local" being in another city up island and was way too far away to deliver in this area. It would take them almost half a day to drive from there and back. I have put in a complaint with FSN since they are supposedly promoting local florists. I'm not sure what they will do about the complaint but I intend to follow up on it.

I have been completely un-able to find much for local florists in Minnesota using the florist detective. All I get is a list of sponsored sites, even 1800! It depends on which link you click, but when I go to Major US cities, there is a link for Minneapolis/ St. Paul Minnesota. This is where is takes me. I don't know if it is just my Windows browser, or if the link is broken or corrupt.

Boss?
