Tis a quiet day, waiting for the severe t-storms to hit our area, so I looked around at my library here in the shop and pulled out this book. Not sure where I got it, think I may have won it at a Design Show but how interesting it is!! BTW, Talmadge McLauren signed it 1998...
Florists' Review published it's 1st weekly on Dec 2, 1897!!
This volume shows timelines...growing, wholesaling, & imports from beginnings, Retailing (including the first recognized woman florist - from Medford MA), shows a great many early flower shops late 1800's photos of Dreer's Philadelphia, - so should say Florists as they grew, cut and sold their flowers and plants - There are a great many photos and illustrations of plants, flowers, design styles, weddings (wasn't there a thread on vintage wedding flowers here lately?), funerals - including the old wire frames stuffed with moss - etc. It is a very interesting and eye opening volume.
