This is an off-shoot of the Bloomz Banned thread.......In following that thread, I am getting some mixed messages about what is and is not in the system as information and other stuff.

THIS THREAD IS TO TRY AND CLEAR THE CONFUSION.

1) FLOWERCHAT is an online community of persons involved in some PROFESSIONAL capacity in the floral industry.

Yes or No

Answer this question first in your reply.
-----------------------------------------------

2) Members of FlowerChat are required to have this information listed in the profile -

BUSINESS NAME
CITY - in which the BUSINESS is located
STATE - in which the BUSINESS is located
COUNTRY - in which the BUSINESS is located
OCCUPATION - what your position is within the BUSINESS
INDUSTRY SEGMENT - what area of the FLORAL INDUSTRY do you work in

New member applicants are required to list a website if applicable.

Other than what is in the bold letters......NOTHING else is required?

Yes or No

Answer this question in your reply

------------------------------------------------------------

Now, notice it does not ask for a name of a person, age, hair color, gender, or anything of a personal nature........strictly business.

IF personal names, information were required - Why would there be nom de plumes like INFINITE, MASTER J, NAVYBRAT, HOLLYWOOD, SFOX, CHR, RWK, just to name a few?

Are these indentities real names of people or are they nicknames?

------------------------------------------------------------

Now, IF FLOWERCHAT IS A COMMUNITY OF FLORAL PROFESSIONALS - then why would you not want to list the information so that another professional can find you and your business and exchange information, orders, etc ??????

it's been stated several times that some people feel the need to not have their info listed, for very specific reasons that are their own. Ask Carrie. Ask Bloomz. Pick up the phone & ask. Email & ask.

But please stop this continuing redundant conversation about "rules", to which most of us already adhere. Those who don't have their reasons.

It's not helpful to start another freakin thread about this crapola.

Did you read through the post entirely......there were some other question that were asked as well?

I would like to clear something up....

Part of this discussion has revolved around a desire to remain 'anonymous' to prevent potential legal liabilities from words typed here at FC.

Whether you use your real name or not or use a nom de plume or enter a fake location, you are not absolved from or prevented from being personally responsible for what you say here. If you unfairly (or even fairly) post about a person or company, they can (and have) used legal measures or threats of legal measures to correct perceived 'wrongs'.

I was directly contacted by a company (who is not a member of FC) about a post I made they felt 'unfair' to their reputation. The letter from them threatened legal action if the info was not cleared up to their liking. I know of at least 3 other FCers who have had something similar happen.

You usually don't read about it when it happens since 'going public' can make a difficult situation much worse.

If you want to have strong opinions, you do need to wear big girl (or big boy) panties and own up to the words you enter here. 'Plausible deniability' is a total mirage.

Transparency makes folks accountable and also gives some pause before rumors, innuendo or worse get posted. Hard won reputations are at stake.

That's partly why we have a level if member ID here.

I will second what Cathy has mentioned: changing your business name on a profile hardly masks you from being identified for legal purposes.

When we're not working on floral stuff, Strider does a lot of reputation defense work, mostly involving blogs and forums. We've been involved in numerous legal actions to either filter, remove, correct or even protect information that has been posted online. Even using a Hotmail account with Blogspot doesn't hide you for more than a day.

I can also happily inform you that libel / slander cases are hard and expensive to prove, so even though the threats are thrown around easily the reality is that it's hard to win unless someone comes right out with a blatant and inflamatory lie.

OK, I will say something that has been told to me on many occasions by my husband the computer guy....

NEVER EVER PUT ANYTHING IN WRITING THAT YOU WOULD NEVER SAY TO SOMEONE"S FACE!!!!! AND EVEN THEN THINK TWICE ABOUT HOW YOU THINK IT WULD PAN OUT IF SOMEONE IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE WOULD SEE IT!!!

I known many people that have been fired from jobs because of emails being taken the wrong way, I have know many people to lose friendships because of facebook and myspace chatter, I have known people who did not get a promotion because of facebook or myspace content, I get reminders all the time from friends about content of what I say to them into their work emails just to cover their a$$.....

I have a friend who cannot say who she works for in public because if heard she will get fired and cannot wear her badge that it can be seen outside the office. Knowing that there are at least 10 florists on here that are friends of mine in the same state, there are some posts that I think twice about before posting because even though I may not mention who I am talking about those people who know me may just by knowing who I have worked for and the circumstances on my post, I learned this the hard way, when info here made it back to me..I was very embarrassed and very glad that it wasn't anything bad being said...because I never imagined anything would have made it back to my ears at that time....

Many times I do talk about things that after I post I wonder if it will come back and bite me....but I pull up those big girl panties and do what I have to do after the fact, whether it be apologize, or put up a counter post or ask an admin to delete something...I take responsibility for what I have done and deal with it in what ever way I have to....and Bloomz will do what ever he feels he has to, whether it be leave permanantly or comply to the rules...
