Parie...

ProFlowers.... "Online ordering services" followed by USE A REAL LOCAL FLORIST

Fed/Up...."Package Delivery Services"

I'm sure someone else will have better ideas... just do not name them directly...let the reporter do that ;)

As to the Legal Defense Fund.... I may need it too ;) ....more on that battle to follow once it's a done deal... my lawyer really likes me these days....

Parie.....

unless asked by the interviewer(s) directly, use NO company names during the course of this time!!
Explain that ALL florist direct orders are generated by either OTHER florists, yourself, or people that send you orders to be filled that you "trust"!!
Explain, that YOU the FILLING FLORIST, are empowered to maintain a high standard of product, service, and quality, and it is YOU, who decides which orders originate from legitimate senders!!
Those that DO NOT qualify for REAL FLORIST involvement, must find some OTHER way to ship their flowers, so, they FEDEX them, bypassing the REAL FLORIST network!!
In doing so, they CAN certainly lower overhead, and cost to the consumer, IF that is what the consumer wants!!
Florists have learned that sooner or later, many consumers will find the non florist shipped flowers to have a less than expected appeal to the recipient, and sender.
Claims of freshness by direct shippers are highly exaggerated!! REAL FLORISTS have the freshest product supply chains, in conjunction with localized growers, and suppliers and have THE KNOWLEDGE and experience to extend the shelf life of flowers!
Direct shippers have NO EXPERIENCE in sending arranged flowers PERIOD!!
IF you feel that "do it yourself" flowers is what you want to send, and your recipient to recieve, feel free to order online from a NON FLORIST!!

Parie -

Better not to name specific companies but they may come up as a result of questions being asked by the reporter.

Did you see the few talking points?

Might want to refer the reporter to the page of consumer comments assembled on the site (they were culled from consumer rating sites about several different companies that direct-ship).

The newscasts from Philadelphia and Charlotte, and the article here also illustrate the challenges with flowers out of a box. Citing sources rathering than expressing personal opinion helps.

Not sure if this means anything, but one of the famous 'from the grower' shippers removed all its customer comments from bizrate.com sometime in the last new days.

Any of us that question some of the floral industry's business practices run the risk of having a company of four come after us. Large companies certainly have the fire power to attempt to intimidate critics and stiffle discussion. But -they would be foolish to challenge truthful comments.

I've long maintained that anyone that cares about the future of this industry should focus on consumer satisfaction and be on the side of flower buyers by providing them with the details they need to make informed choices. Shoppers should uderstand the scope of their purchases and not be mislead by half-truths, misrepresentations and/or misimpressions of products/services.

If more companies adhered to that principle, the industry might be growing, not shrinking.

Have a great interview. I'm sure you'll do well. :)

hmmm so why is it that reporters can use the names (blowflowers and ups, etc.. and I can't?

Tim - North Port Floral
You can, I would just urge you not to....the reporters have an implied immunity (or something like that) and I'm sure their legal defense departments can afford alot more than we can....

You can. If you name names, be careful to separate your 'opinion' from 'fact' and be ready to back up any assertions with specific examples.

Claims of freshness by direct shippers are highly exaggerated!! REAL FLORISTS have the freshest product supply chains

I disagree Mikey, the the other statements you made I totally agree with.

I've long maintained that anyone that cares about the future of this industry should focus on consumer satisfaction and be on the side of flower buyers by providing them with the details they need to make informed choices.

I agree Cathy, that is why we give our customer ALL the details about calling the florist direct and cutting out the WS. I challenge all florists here who have WS to heed your wise words above and go 100% at our real probelm, not 80% / 20%. ;) I called a few orders out today and told the florist to fill at 100%, you could hear their jaw hit the floor. The customers whom I did this for, were very happy I told them the truth and their loyalty meter for us, went up just a little bit.

Parie, I know it is too late, but if it isn't here is more ammo: Flowers in a box on Vday are tacky and because of the logistics of air travel im Miami, a lot of flower boxes sit on the tarmac. In such a time like Vday, flowers should come from the heart, not a box. :) You have my number if you want more.
