Flowerchat is awsome!!!
I had this business fall into my lap in early 2006. With the encouragement of my husband and me dragging my feet (I knew it was going to hard work and long hours) we purchased the poperty that the flower shop sits on. At the time and being naive, it looked busy as she was getting all these 1800FTDTF orders which seemed all fine and dandy at the time.
WOW was I in for a surprise.... I found flowerchat and what a difference this has made. People who understood the floral business, information regarding wire services and most importantly.. order gathers.
Since reading and learning and posting, I have narrowed the wire service down to one (TF which I am the unit secretary..another learning experience). I now have some cash flow... not huge, but not loosing too much sleep any more. It has help me to make wiser business decisions as I really had no clue how to market my business. I have a great website (thanks florist 2.0) that I can individualize to me and not be a cookie cutter (of which I have never been). Customers always comment how nice it its... make my heart warm. Now I just have to get the SEO and blog down (have things in my head, but hard to put to words).
I really appreciate the comments regarding the arrangements that I post, as the only training I have had was when I was 18-21 years old working in a flowershop as the delivery driver and Elin took the time to teach me, wire/taping, feathering carnations, making hand tie nosegays for dances, bouts and eventually corsages and small arrangments. I lost sleep and was sick the first big piece I had to make.. It was for the High School graduation in 2006 and should I say the rest is history. All of your comments and liking of my work has help boost my confidence tremendously. A visiting designer and friend of the old owner told me after Mother's day 2006, that I best find a great designer as I was awful and not organized enough. I was in tears. So much for that.. I guess she was wrong.
My sales have gone down over the past 3 years, mostly in part of quitting the wire services, but so have my cogs and I almost have a handle on them. I went from a 3 person shop to a one (thank you economy) but I am still paying my bill, plus have money to reinvest and have some when the family needs it... THIS IS HUGE! I am no longer draining our family money.. Thank you flowerchat for information on cogs and business!
I have made great friends and I have had wonderful mentoring! Thank you!
Carol, Cathy, Mark, Mocha, Sprout, Linda, Rhonda, Lori, Ryan, Mikey, Paula, Victoria are a few of you that come to mind (I could name the whole membership list), so many had helped me in learning this crazy business. (If I missed someone, please don't take it personal.)
I am hanging in there.. It's in my blood. I love to see peoples faces when they receive the flowers. Love to create flowers that fit perfectly for the situation.
I love learning and seeing what other people create and flowerchat is the perfect place for this!
