Thank you for the nice welcome!
Hi everyone...
Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome! Sorry for the disjointed format of my first post, the member introduction. I thought I was supposed to answer the questions briefly and didn't realize it would be printed just as I wrote it.
Anyway, I opened my shop about 10 months ago. A lifelong dream after many unhappy, unsatisfying years in the corporate world. I was lucky enough to rent a large space in a brand-new building--the location is great--it is still a struggle though. I have put more capital into this business than have ever dreamed possible in less than a year. I am a designer and I have just one other designer, who is excellent but she is leaving me in November so I have to replace her. We are busy and have great return business and very satisfied customers, just not enough of them yet. We need more corporate clients but I am too busy running the business to go out and solicit same. Also there are a lot of new shops that opened at the same time as us within a few blocks' radius, so the competition is very stiff. My biggest problems continute to be the high price of florals and the large amount of waste. In addition I spent waaaay too much on advertising early on to get my name out there, but now as our clientele builds I have been able to cut back on that significantly. I am sure I have made many "rookie mistakes", but I am happy with the work we do and now would just like to make a living "doing what I love".
So that's my story--thanks for listening. I am happy to be here and look forward to being a member of Flowerchat!
