Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction of how to create initials for and entryway of a church. Can someone recommend somewhere where I can buy styrofoam letters and then use flowers in water tubes? Any other suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance for all your help! This is to be hung on the front doorway of a church with satin ribbon.

I would cut the letters myself from styrofoam and attach the flowers using oasis glue and either toothpicks or bank pins. If the flower head has a long calax ( carnations) I would use round toothpicks. If the flower has no calax ( pompom) I would use bank pins by placing the flower against the foam and sticking in the pin. Spray the final product with clearset or clearlife.
The water picks or wet foam would add a great deal of weight.
Good luck.

Hi, Here is how we do them. Green 1 inch Styrofoam, draw your letter with marker, We then fill in letter with Pittosporum or baby's breath fill the rest of the styrofoam sheet with a green that lays flat, Lemon, galax leaves, and then outline the peice with, BB, or another type of green.

A picture can be seen of one on our website, Under Coleman Florist Weddings, 4th category down, Click on the image for a better picture as TF screwed up the image when loading it, and I have not had time to fix it. This is apic of our very 1st on we did, so they have gotten better. They look great on the church. and are light weight. We usually bring them to the reception after and hang them on the wall if there is one, behind the bride and groom.

Have fun with it.

Copper tubing can be bent and cut easily just glue greens and flowers will be much faster and more managable good luck

Ok Just man FYI,, call and ask site first before you can do this, because some are not allowing this...also you can get them at Awesome Events they are the Stryo Folks they do great work..

Also Oasis has a product that still might be available, it is wet foam on top of a dry bottom, ans can be cut to form shapes. We use them on the floats all the time.
Another thing I have done is to carantion petal and outline of the initals, on a piece of nttting or batting, like a picture and frame it. Looks great, but do check on the venue for there policies.

I have used foam core and used oasis glue to attach mums or carnations. We make them a few days ahead, spray them down with crowning glory and put them in garbage bags in the cooler. They are light weight and easy to transport. If the doors are glass the 3m tabs will even hold them.

My designer had a great idea. we used hook & loop mats (not sure of name) you use them to make looped yarn pictures or rugs to hang on wall. anyways we cut the initial from a blown up image we created on the computer after tracing it on the plastic mat . You can buy the blanks at craft stores in various sizes. Then we used oasis floral adhesive glue & glued the flowers on it like you do for corsages. They turned out very nice & lightweight. You can also cut the shape out of oasis blocks, they have styrofoam & oasis together but that is very heavy....
