I would love to know how to make dogs, cats, etc. out of flowers. I had seen one photo in the gallery and also on-line but I am not sure how to get the shape just right.

I know that they were very popular several years ago but they were made out of regular foam rather than oasis.

If this has already been discussed somewhere, could someone direct me to the thread?

Thanks so much!!!

I think CHR still does the Carnation and Pompon poodle at her shop. It used to be a big seller years and years ago. Some of the real flower veterans on this board may be able to tell you how. These are the people who pre-date Oasis. I myself have done just a few designs using Spahgnum moss, Vermiculite, and shredded styrofoam in my time, but not many.

I look forward to learning this technique. I would like to use it for Humane Society arrangements (when they have fundraisers) and also for pet bereavement arrangements. If I can get the basics, I would like to mold it into something new.

I saw a photo where Preston Bailey made a life size large dog for one of his events.

I would love to be able to learn this design technique as well......It would be a great seller to bring back

If you subscribe to JTV he has one in his archives and as you know complete with video. Little different technique than the ones pictured, but just as cute.

I

We make these special designer items by getting an image from somewhere, it may be the customer has a photo of cat, dog, badge, bus or what ever.
I then scan it into the pc, then using MS Publisher set my paper size to the size of the finished design say 22" * 18". print this out just on draft quality, you only need to get the outline so saves on ink. Tape the sheets of paper together to make the full size design. Then pin mark the outline onto your oasis designer board. Nice outline all to scale.

Was this something recent? I don't subscribe to JTV but I do have his first 3 seasons on DVD. I don't remember seeing it.

The photos, that the link directs you to, do not explain the "how to" nor any origin of the products shown but this is more of what I am trying to find the technique.

We have a "new" designer here and she was in the business over 25 years ago. She said that when they made them, they used styrafoam and pin the flowers to that. This would make a flat image.

I would imagine that these were popular in the late 80's or early 90's after the introduction of oasis.

Later this week - time permitting - I'm going to allow real florists only (no OG or 'national' sites) permission to use the photo of our puppy arrangement.

For permission - for free - there will be only 2 requirements:

1) You must create your own name and description for the design and not copy Avante Gardens'
2) You must place a link from the product page (or your About Us page if your hosting company can't link from product pages) with the credit: photo used with permission, Avante Gardens

I need to set up an easy way to handle this.

Do you believe it's a fair trade of a product photo for a link to a non-competitor florist? What do you think?

I can speak for the others but what I am looking for is the "how to" design the animals like in the link that was discussed earlier. It is not as easy as it seems especially in the back because there is no photo of the back of the animals.

I think if you are going to share your photos or design how to, then it would be up to you to decide what you would like in return. I don't see anything wrong with linking up with your web-site, however, it may be difficult for those people who are not computer literate (like myself!).

Speaking for myself Cathy - A How-to would be great.....even you posted it privately or sent the how-to via PM.

Those are INCREDIBLE !!!!!!!

The detailing is amazing. I love that design.
