Many times we focus in on negative portrayal of flowers
Last night as I was watching television I was thinking of the many good ways flowers are displayed in a positive light. Great indirect advertising for our industry.
The first example was on the Sopranos. During a mob funeral there were many large beautiful pieces shown including the largest solid Red carnation heart I had ever seen. The same show had another visual of a different wake with fewer flowers.
Thanks to my DVR I also watched Desperate Housewife’s that showed two brides fighting over a choice florist. In prior episodes they have shown a character getting many flower deliveries and even a scene in a flower show.
A few months ago I attended a design show where a hedge arrangement was made out of daffodils. Sure enough the next morning I saw the same arrangement featured on the Ellen show.

Funny, that's how I watch TV also...looking at the flower arrangements. It is good advertisement, and I hope that it only increases!

The flowers are the first thing I notice if they are in a scene from a show!
Im also really bad if I am out anywhere, for a meal or in a hotel. I always investigate the flowers. Nothing annoys me more than if im sitting having a meal and there are flowers at the table that are just about past or not sitting proper. Can't help but fidgit!

Flowers in TV & the Movies

almost 20 years ago, we got a phone call from a person who was then a "go-fer" for a made for TV movie that was being shot in our city. The request was for white tulips -- it was Mid-January, and they needed them within about 36 hours. I got the call because I was open (remember, I'm the former Mall florist), and did not tell her she was crazy. I did not know at the time of the call that she was involved in the making of a movie.

We got the flowers for her, charged a reasonable price....and have made a life-long customer, who has referred us to many, many other persons working in the industry as they do things in & around the Pittsburgh area.

By our best & last count, we have contributed things to at last 20 feature length films or made for TV movies, 10 to 14 TV commercials, dressed the sets for several local programs, and been referred for a number of commercial jobs. We have become sort of the "go to" person, when you need something (sometimes it's not flower related -- sometimes its history or building related, or location related). It's always fun, challenging and an interesting diversion...... and...best part, they pay well!!

So, the next time you see those flowers on a TV show, remember that there is a set decorator, or designer or dresser somewhere, who is working with a professional "real" florist (usually) to provide the stuff you see, and the florist is enjoying everything that they do!! (and it's always fun to see the finished product....right now, we are working with the Spike TV "KillPoint" people filing in Pittsburgh -- Made for TV, which will hopefully get picked up for a full series. They are authorized right now for 8 to 10 episodes).

Regards,

Cheryl

I have often said how drab the t.v and theatre world would be without flowers. People perhaps don't notice them while there are there, but they would notice the bleakness of the scene if there were no flowers.

One of the most beautiful sets I have seen consistently has been the Today Show. I have emailed them to tell them that their florist should be commended for their excellant work, style, and colors. I think I have only seen a credit for the florist once and can remember trying to read it as it was flying by on the screen.
I also love Ellen's...there is always flowers on her coffee table but because of her dancing it is always a short hedge design but perfect compliment.
When I watched the soaps, I was always amazed at the beautiful flowers in almost every room.
