FOL Default Disaster (last night)

IIRC correctly, FTD had warned that the new selection guide would be rolled out soon, and encouraged users to set prices on the new items. Is it possible this is connected to that roll out?

As you said - it's inexcusable to be over-writing custom pricing. Makes no sense for them, either, as they often undersell the florists. Why lower the florists' prices? I feel bad for the tech who hit that button - OOPS!

This is a real pain and will take some time to fix. I agree I don't know why they couldn't have converted the numbers and kept the prices the same.
If any FTD florist had custom categories the change have removed all FTD images from that category. You will need to call FOL and have them corrected.

Probally just wanted to keep you guys busy with other things while they boost some traffic.

But seriously the way most updates happen I will bet they needed to update everything perhaps with some different descriptions or codes. Maybe to keep their own website from having dupicate content combared to there hosted little sites.

When I need to do that kind of an update I have options on our site to add or rebuild. I am sure someone thought it would be better to rebuild.

I find the timing extremely questionable. I've made the argument before that the *updates* should be done in June, so that florists have time to work out the inherent kinks while they have time in the summer. But these things are always timed to happen when there is money to be made, and little time to spend hours and days and weeks correcting/changing a website.

I have not looked at a FOL site in a while, but I would imagine there will be many items each individual shop may want to delete from their offerings, either because the look is "not them" or because they don't want to offer a specific item, or for simple ugliness...good luck finding them all before a customer orders one...

Eric, you might have a point on the dupe content....

I guess the next question would be when have past updates been done? Do they happen to fall around the same time every year or just before holidays?

The best possible times I would imagine would be June & March.

If anything they need to have a better way to back up custom settings so that the members could just reupload their previous changes.

They usually coincide with major updates to the selection guide, mostly when a new one is released.

Last night the entire fleet of FOL websites were uploaded with changes that is going to cause a lot of unnecessary work for florists in restoring their defaults.

See here

What were they thinking.

Not so here, MAC.

My FOL site is fine - checked, and all custom pricing is there, custom products are there, custom product indexing is there...including the TEL product I have loaded :)

No disaster here... The ONLY problem I found is under the Rose category - only a couple prices changed, mainly - me thinks - because the image was changed, hence the old product deleted, and new one listed - with same # and name as old product. Several of the items still had my pricing.

No biggie...

Actually, all the product numbers have changed...the names are changed to protect the innocent...no, the names are REUSED, which is confusing, as .com has been using the new images for two weeks.
I have about half of the guide repriced, and working on the last section is going more quickly...if you can't get to the whole guide quickly, at least change the prices on your homepage...those that they chose are ridiculously low!
As long as I have been in the industry, FTD's selection guide has been replaced in the fall...Sept/Oct. No great difference this time.
Oh well, back to work...it doesn't get done until it's overdue!

are those prices on everybodys FTD website? thats crazy! who is going to fill those orders???

JB, the prices on that Best Sellers page are stunningly low and it does appear as if everything on the site is half price.

I got the link from one of their emails that said "prices 50% site wide"

and no Joe (hope you don't mind - you're still JoeMama to me) - it is only on their site.

I wanted to order just to see how much they transmitted...my guess is they have to send them at the usual prices.

Some kind of book cooking move probably.
