I have no problems with Canada....The cost and time away from biz is the deal breaker for me, if and when this really comes up..

Stupid question but do we need a passport or can we still cross the border with a driver's license?

Mary

When I went to Mexico last month you had to have one, and you didn't used to a few years back.

I'd say I *think* it's now a requirement. From

ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS: U.S. citizens traveling to Canada are required to show U.S. Government-issued photo ID and proof of U.S. citizenship, such as a birth certificate.
In addition, U.S. law requires that Americans entering the U.S. from Canada by air (including those returning by air from short trips to Canada) must have a valid passport. This requirement will be extended to sea travel (except closed loop cruises), including ferry service, and land travel by the Summer of 2008

But there's a follow up deal I read here....so I think they are in process of requiring them, perhaps now required just by air

Check here:

The deadline on this requirement is a constantly moving target. It has been pushed back again and is still not being enforced and won't be for quite some time. It would not stop me, and getting passport is not that difficult, if it is required. Time constraints would be the issue here, as the passport application process is way behind, and there is some lag time between application and receiving. But again, this requirement is not being enforced yet.

Ditto to everyone whop posted about time, and finances. I'd love to go to SAF, to CT Florists Convention, to AIFD. The difference being I "know" many of you already, and consider many of you friends - a FC get together may take more priority over the others because of this. But the reality is I am chained to the store currently.

If the get together was within a 4-5 hour drive, I'd be more likely to be able to find a way, like I did in CT last year.

As of July 2008 we will need a passport to cross into New Brunswick here.
Causing quite a bit of a ruckus with all of those who have family they can walk to across the line...

Do we have a date in mind? If the time element worked out, Buddy and I just might take a little vacation to Canada in our motor home. We will consider it after we know a date.

I thought the question was "Or other area". But I just may decide to go to Canada if the time was available.

I am sure making a lot of people think, which is good.
I know it takes a lot of time and preperation to have a venue like this so it may not happen til late fall or next year unless we can come up with something realistic soon.
As for cost, we would find the best deal on food and lodging so we can have as many people participate. We would have a registration fee to cover cost of designers, hall rental etc.
We have so many florists on this board that I am sure we can come up with something for everyone to use and bring back. We have enough talent, AIFD members that some of you may offer your talent for the design shows at a reduce rate (expenses) to flower chat.
Please do not look at this as a wire service conference where the cost of drinks is free.
This conference could be held in Canada one year and across the border the following year or have it evry two years.

I will post another thread on what is easier for everyone. I know it will hard to accomodate eveyone but we can see if it is feasible to have it.

Money will be the critical part of this conference.

Just let me know when to put a glass jar with my photo on it for donations for the trip!!!!lollollollol

I would drive to the Toronto area no problem (I have my passport) but the deal breaker right now is mostly money. With finances being tight due to an unemployed hubby, who unless he gets a job soon, it will not be in the budget. Sorry.

I'm tied to the shop as well, I like your idea of moving it around from year to year.. I would love to go if the event were closer..driving distance. There are lots of us West Coasters here!!

Heck I always wanted a manage a trois!

A long weekend in a slower month like July/August would be good for me.
I love Canada any time of year. Can I stay at your house Luc! I will buy the beer! Hee hee hee

Bring the beer, I always wanted a manage a trois, Yes you can stay at my house!!!!!!!
