Okay folks need your help. I have a lady that wants a football made out of flowers for a table centerpiece for a memorial service in June. Any ideas out there would be most appreciated. I am stumped, guess my creative juices need a jolt!!!

Well, you could try using an Oasis sphere, covering it with bronze poms, elongating it on the ends to make the football shape, place it in a centerpiece arrangement. Hold it above the other flowers with wooden pics. On the other hand you could shape styrofoam to the football shape and cover that.
You could have it up-ended and resting in one of those things they use to hold the football before they kick it.
Just some thoughts, good luck with it.

Or you could really cheat, and cold glue the tiny bronze flats to a real football, that way you'd be sure to get the scale just right. (Just a cheap one from a super store kids toys department) add real leather laces, and present it on a peice of fresh sod from the nursery. ( I'd cut the sod to perfectly fit an oversized kitchen tray from a banquet hall, so there isn't any earth on the table. ) Check online to see the deceased favorite team had a logo on their football, and if so, be sure to copy it exactly. Kind of wierd though, don't you think? Or maybe it's just because it's not a common thing to do here.

I would shape a block of oasis into the shape of the ball and then attach it to an oasis board. I would cover the board with moss to create grass and then use snake grass to create goal posts, you could even put little flags at the corners. I would cover the ball in white double xanths and spray them whatever colour your footballs are, use some black wire to give that stitched affect.

I would also put flower sprays into the moss so that it had a floral theme and maybe use the team colours.

Hope this helps.

Example of a football i did but i did not have the complete space to do what i have suggested above. Ps our footballs are what you call soccer balls.

Good ideas!!! Got any idea of what to charge for something like this? Putting it on the green to create grass is the way I think I will go. Sorry I haven't responded more quickly but my daughter's father is dying and he is way to young to die, very sudden, complications from pneumonia, so I have been a little preoccupied to say the least. Thanks for your help.

Julz,
So sorry you are going through that, makes things just that much more frantic.

I had started posting my idea but never got to finish it last week, too busy! Figured you would have done this by now....so here is my take.

I had thought if you put the astro-turf over a board or plank with a dowel embedded in it. Then fashion one of those "T" prong-looking things that footballs rest on. Maybe out of silver heavy gauge wire.

I had been thinking to fashion the football shape out of the super-size oasis block, but someone, I think OB1, suggested using an actual football. Depends on how long it needs to last. Using red cushions, and then giving them a light over-spray of wood-tone.

Shove that sucker on the dowel, maybe a band of waterproof tape on the bottom to help it not slide. Unless you will just lay it in the grass. White minis for laces, do after you position the football where you want it so they show well.

Good luck

Thank you, the women is actually coming in today to discuss it, so I will know more of what she wants this afternoon. The service is not until June, so at least I have time. My daughter's father, my 1st husband died Tuesday, we are having the funeral next Weds., should make for a hectic, I don't know where I am week, with mother's day and all, oh well, just go with the flow.
