I'm doing these arrangements for an upcoming wedding.

But my question is -- for a hotel, how long will this arrangement last?
How long will rose petals last in water and how long will grass last in foam? Will the grass begin to flop down after a few days?
I need the arrangement to last a minimum of 4 days with the optimum time being 7 days.
Your advice and comments are welcome!

eee, the rose petal water is my concern. I would add at least 3 capfulls of bleach to the water, that should buy you a couple extra days. The grass should be fine, if anything glass usually starts to dry as is.

Did you end up growing the grass (Zebra)? The arrangements are way cool.

Is there a way to just put the rose petals in the vase, no water? They would get soft but so what. Hmmm....or faux petals? Would people be able to tell?
Very cool arrangements!

edited to add, what is at the top? I suppose you need water for the grass, huh. Or could you set a container inside, on top of the petals...

I wouldn't use the bleach with colored petals won't it fade!! I would through in some of the vodka stuff, so that doesn't fade or rot the thing, also if It were I, would keep checking on them, and replace as needed, this look is only a one time shot before it looks icky,,

I think I would use silk petals as suggested, or colored rock or the aqua gels stuff or similar item and distilled water. I agree that the grass would probably dry without going limp.

No matter what you do those petalls are going to rot after 3 days...The water will get icky and smelly....I would try and experiment with the faux petals, I have put them in water and the look ok but has been just a few not totally submerged...

The grass usually does not flop and will last a long time before it looks really really dry and yucky...

OH, yeah and any type of dark petal, like red or hot pink may bleach out with bleach, vodka will just add some sugar to the water which will tend to add bacteria, vodka may work in the cooler but out it can spell disaster over a long period...

how about crinkled cello, with orchids scattered between the cello & the glass? When you add water, it gives a look like ice, and the orchids will hold way better than rose petals. Using single blooms scattered will be easy on the cost ...

Or...couldn't you skip the water all together? Use a small liner with oasis that 'sits' on top of your petals. Insert your grass into that. The greens you have wrapped around the vase look like they would hide the oasis. Bet you could get a week out of it before everything molds.

Definitely, I was going to build the grass in foam like you have suggested which would be hidden by the aspidistra. I just don't trust the rose petals for longevity.

Not sure. One of my freelancers brought in a freeze dried lavender dendro bloom for the life of me I cant find the contact info. It was beautiful and rather inexpensive for what it's potential is I thought. What about freeze dried petals that you can use over and over?

I had another thought about fresh petals in water, my experience is that they float in water and it takes a lot to get depth only problem is that they are so boyent that they would spill out of the top. Did you do these arrangements? I'm wondering if there is any water in the vases.

How long will a dend. bloom last submerged?
at least 5 days, provided they aren't refrigerated at all in the water (they'll turn translucent). We've had them on the counter at different times for a week or more ...

No, this is a picture from The Knot that a bride wants me to do this August. I am simply going to fill the vase with fresh rose petals which have no problem lasting for the duration of the event. But I love the concept and wanted to try it for the hotel...
If you did this for the hotel I would still use the silk petals...when they are submerged in water does it really matter if they are real or not? I would think that with bear grass in the top you may get two weeks out of the grass and the silk petals would still look great...Explain that to the hotel....bet the would go for it

Several solutions to this dilemma come to mind.

Does the design HAVE to utilize rose petals or can you use alternative materials to achieve the color tonation?

1) use permanent botanical petals.
2) use the colored powder oasis
3) use colored glass or acrylic glass chunks - accent decor has a wonderful wide line of glass chunks
4) use colored marbles or small stones

My first choice however.....would be to fill the vases with colored water.....then place a small liner on top of that and use your bear grass.
