The SCFA ( South Carolina Florist's Association's annual convention is being held this weekend. I will have pictures to post most likely tomorrow evening.

In the meantime - One of FC's favorite people Connie Baker - aka Connie was elected to the office of Vice-President of the Association.

Also, although they are not members of FlowerChat - two of the award winners deserve recognition here. A young man who some of you may know - Andrew Stinson - won the SCFA Designer of the year competition for the second time in his floral career - That puts Andrew among celebrated company within our association. Only three other people including myself have won that award twice.

Also, A legend within our local association, A man who deserves great respect and has worked tirelessly for over 30 years being involved with our association is retiring, but as his swans song.....Mr. Michael MacFarland won our Palmetto cup of Interpretive design for an unprecedented fourth time in his career.

I would like all of you to join in wishing hearty congratulations to one of our favorite ladies here on FlowerChat - Congratulations Connie on being elected to Vice President. If things folow the natural progression, In 2012 we will celebrate Connie as the president of the association.

Well, I told you I would have some pictures from the South Carolina Florist Association annual convention and here are some of them.

These five images are taken from the President's ball decorations.

The particular picture with a mirror was an art peice created by Andrew Stinson. The flowers were sponsored by Mayesh and a small Hawaiian specialty orchid grower known as Acres of Orchids.

Perhaps Elmo ( ELen ) managed to take a picture or two of the little wrist corsage design that I took great pleasure in and considered it an honor to make for her...........and just so it goes on 'official FlowerChat records' - Connie, All you have to do is ask and I will do my level best to undertake any challenge or render any help you may need as your rise to the top continues.

Why, thanks, Everyone! I'm still trying to get over the shock, and at this point I'm not even sure what I've gotten myself into. I've been on the Board of Directors for about 5 years, but never even once considered running for an office. Someone called me when I was at the Atlanta Market and told me that someone had submitted my name for the office. No problem, I thought, because whoever is running against me will be elected. Guess what?!? Noone ran against me, but everyone had the option of write-in voting.

It was a great convention, with lots of emphasis on education. The new president has most of her plans already made for the next convention in July, 2010. It will be another outstanding time. I'm already eager to get started on whatever details are assigned to me. The new president has already announced the first 2 board meetings, so things are already set in motion.

Again, thanks for the good wishes. Prayers are appreciated also!!

Ricky, yes I took a photo of the body flower you made for me. Just how sweet of you to construct this piece of art for me.
Ricky, a shot of you working on it.
Last a Photo of the V. P. and my self (Connie & Elmo) as you can see we had a great time and I was withSCFA 09 060.jpg

SCFA 09 063.jpg good company.

Ellen, who is a master teacher of cosmetology, fixed my hair and make-up. I wish I could remember what the photographer said that was so funny.....or maybe that second margarita made me smile so big. I hardly recognize me!!

Ellen, was this before or after you broke your glass?

Thanks again for everyone's good wishes!

Connie - At the next SCFA board meeting, find out something for me.

Tommorrow (Wednesday) I have a job interview at a place called Carolina Pottery ( a home decor/crafts type store similar to Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and the like ) as a Floral Designer in their permanent botanical dept.

Here is my question. Our current DOY Andrew - is employed at Michaels.....not a retail floral store - Assuming the precedent exists because of Andrew's win, I want you to make sure that it is within the constitution and bylaws of the Association if I decide to enter either DOY or Palmetto Cup if I am hired at Carolina Pottery.
