Well we knew United Online would eventually get around to teaming their various properties to gang bang the retail florists, and... just in time for Valentines... FTD is offering a coupon/gift card program with a value of $50.00 that I don't think any real florist can compete with.
Could it be another CONsumer scam? Gathering information? You be the judge.
$100.00 of my Casino Cash to the first to spot what I think (my opinion, not up for debate) is the glarying elephant in the article. Game on!

After reading this a couple times, I noticed one glaring thing, call it a claim, call it a play on words... do you see it? Did you notice?internetretailer.com said:MyPoints, FTD and FreeInternet hand out free flowers for Valentine’s Day
Loyal customers are in high demand during tough times. That’s why customer loyalty program MyPoints, florist FTD and Internet service provider FreeInternet have banded together to offer a fragrant prize for Valentine’s Day: free $50 FTD gift cards.
Between Feb. 4 and Feb. 8, MyPoints will send members special e-mails announcing a promotion of the day. The first 100 members to visit the promotion web page each day will win the gift cards. Winning members can visit FTD.com to redeem their prizes. In addition to the MyPoints member e-mails, the Valentine’s Day campaign will be advertised on the FreeInternet web site.
The three companies’ common parent, United Online, took the results of a recent survey of 10,000 MyPoints members to heart. The survey showed the vast majority of shoppers are spending less. So the companies arranged the florist gift card promotion, designed to boost customer satisfaction and sales during this key holiday for FTD, No. 55 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
But the promotion will benefit all three companies, says John Lane, senior vice president of consumer marketing and product management at MyPoints.
“MyPoints benefits from new member sign-ups and an enhanced customer experience for existing members during these trying economic times,” Lane says. “The benefit to FreeInternet will be a new audience and corresponding traffic to the site via offers displayed on the contest confirmation page. FTD will have the advantage of a premium placement Valentine’s offer served to entrants not awarded the $50 gift card. And all three companies benefit from the increased brand exposure.”
United Online will measure success by the volume of MyPoints sign-ups and the conversion of the FTD and FreeInternet offers displayed to contest entrants.
“With fewer dollars of discretionary spend in the current economy,” Lane says, “a primary objective of MyPoints is to remain top of mind at the time of purchase.”
