OMG, this has got to be one of the funniest Mother's Day boxed flowers stories - Ever (unless you were an officer involved in the fiasco).

Suspicious package contained roses

After using a "water shot" to render a suspicious (package) found at Millenium Plaza "somewhat safe," local sheriff's deputies and Clarksville Police officers found inside the package what could have been an early Mother's Day present -- roses.

The package, which appeared to be an FTD Florist marked box, was reported to police about 3:30 p.m. at the main entrance of the Montgomery County Courthouse, said Tim Chandler, Montgomery County Homeland Security coordinator.

After arriving on the scene, Sgt. Cliff Smith and Bishop Delaney, members of the Montgomery County Bomb Squad, used a robot to approach the package and then used a black powder-propelled "water shot" to render the suspected device "somewhat safe."

Red, yellow and pink rose petals were scattered across Millenium Plaza afterward.

For more on this story, please see Sunday's edition of The Leaf-Chronicle.
More likely - a late Mother's Day present that got left ('without signature') on the courthouse steps on Saturday by a UPS or FedEx driver. The box - being black - probably didn't help alleviate fear.

Hope some savvy local shop learned who the intended recipient was and rushed her over an arrangement with a card saying something like "Happy Mother's Day from your local florist where our flowers never get mistaken for a bomb." :>

that's the funniest thing I've heard all week - love it love it love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the comic relief - I truly needed that today

I hate to hear these things, But I am so with you, I hope that FTD,,Has to take more heat on this one,,,I love this for the inside of it, and sad that someone took it for something else..

All of us who Blog, Twitter, and Facebook ought to mark, share and post this story - Along with Cathy's statement - Our Flowers will never be mistaken for a BOMB.

I love UPS

Our UPS deliveryman stopped at our shop with a delivery for us. He mentioned that he had a truck full of flowers to deliver today. He said this should make up look pretty good...it's 11:30 a.m. and over 100 degrees. Wow, think of those poor flowers and free chocolates!

Do you know where your flowers are? (might make a good commercial)

I saw the dude from CNN riding with the FedEx guy Saturday...leaving them at the door and moving on... this was out of Atlanta...

Update

The package, which appeared to be from FTD Florists, was supposed to be delivered Friday, but instead was left at the front entrance on Saturday.
I call ::BS It should read 'from FTD.com'. By using 'florists', it makes the local affiliates sound like they were at fault.

One of the comments on that article:
Send the response and cleanup bills to FTD. Not only was FTD supposed to leave the package on Friday (and tried to hide their mistake by leaving live flowers to wilt at the courthouse when it is common knowledge that no courthouse is open on Saturday), but the resulting fiasco has a price tag.
