What always amazed TOTO the most about their HOLIDAY BRANDED PRODUCTS was the fact that, THEY NEVER PUSHED THEM at their own points of sale.
Had that argument with Rock Davis who headed DOT.CON back in 1995 under Meg Whitman's reign.
We had all PURCHASED their C1 through C7's, greened and flowered them up, and prepared to fill all the orders which, we thought we would get through FTD.
Then, the only orders which were kicking out from them, wound up to be for the CANDY CANE LANE BOUQUET at $29.99.
I called Rock to PITCH A ***** in asking just, WHAT IN THE HELL WAS GOING ON OUT THERE in his department?
He answer to me was; WELL, THAT'S WHAT THE CUSTOMERS SEEM TO LIKE and THEY LIKE THAT PRICE POINT.
So, I said to Rock; If that's the case then, why don't you just make the CANDY CANE LANE BOUQUET the C1?
Anyway, that never happened and we were forced to loose most of those PREPARED HOLIDAY BRANDED other than, what we PUSHED OUT OF OUR STORES ourselves.
After which, the unsold HOLIDAY BRANDED went into our basements with the hope of pushing them out next year.
Then, THEY ALL WONDERED WHY WEE DIDN'T BUY THEIR HOLIDAY BRANDED for CHRISTMAS of 1996?
Because, YOU DON'T EVEN FEATURE and FOCUS UPON selling your OWN FREEKEN HOLIDAY BRANDED STUFF on your website and via 800-SEND. And TO MEE, that's a NO FREEKEN BRAINER!
Anyway, finding that I could no longer work with a partner who was ALWAYS COSTING MEE MONEY and SALES, I had to cut their cord starting in January of 2002.
And, I'm happy to say that, it was the best decision wee ever made regarding our BOTTOM LINE and our ability to devote 100% of our attention to OUR CUSTOMER at 100% OF THEIR DOLLARS.
FORE! TOTO and, WE'RE NOT IN OZ anymore!
