FTD has left the Canadian / U.S. $ at par to date and it's making them a bundle of extra $$$.

I just went to FTD.com's site and sent an order for the FTD Basket of Cheer to be sent to my wife price was 39.99 + 14.99 Service Charge and a Surcharge of 2.74 to cover the GST in Canada total 57.72 U.S.
When I convert that at todays exchange rate it's 74.40 Cdn. that I paid for the order.

Half hour later the Merc spits out my order to be delivered to my wife....total dollars FTD sent me was 41.99 so when I back out the GST which by the way is only 2.06 according to my POS 39.93 to fill the order.

Our price for this delivered in town is 57.25 Cdn. so I thought what the heck, I'll ask for a price change to that value and see what happens.

Well about half an hour later I get a call on the home phone # from FTD.com telling me that there is no florist in the area to deliver my order and would I like to change my selection to a drop ship gift!!!!! I told her no just cancel the order and refund my credit card and that I'd find something else, and she again said that there was no florist in that area. Guess I should have told her I was sitting in one when she called.........but I didn't

Well a few minutes later thee Merc spits out a cancel request so I send a con to confirm.

But my real peeve is why when they collected 39.93 U.S. which is 51.43 Cdn for the flowers don't they at least give the Canadian florists the exchange so that we have a half a chance to fill orders from the U.S.

Oh FTD.com must smile every time a Canadian shopper orders online for something to be sent to Canada.......Collect money in U.S funds and pay the Canadian florists in Cdn funds!!! that's about 20% give or take on and given day lately.

And this just plain Sucks,,,and it is a darn shame, when I know that we use to take the conversion and still do to send the whole amount, I just don't get it, and this so called new guy , needs a call from you , and the thing on the no shop thing, " I would be so on that phone, and blowing it up to them at this moment" So they wanted to drop ship, wonder how much that would have cost you,,What a crock of BS on there part.

Well you " are a Basket of Cheer" but give them hades.....

Chez -

I agree. It does not even seem legal and appears very much like bait & switch.

Offer one price to consumer, skim the dollars, and when the local florists just asks for the dollars paid by the consumer, FTD calls the customer to say 'there is no florist'.

BBJ - thank you so much for your post. It's a Canadian consumer shake-down.

BBJ,
Does FTD offer a exhange rate on their orders. TF is 20% now? Will be very interesting at Easter and Mothers Day how they will handle the price figured at par 6 months ago and now are more expensive?

Are you really surprise how FTD is handling this order. Look at the scam of holding back retrans $ few years ago on incoming order to Canada.

Bet you still fill those retrans orders!

Also for telling you that there is no florist in that town. That their new line when we florist decide to reject those orders. TF uses it and I would not be surprise to all OG uses that also.

The only you are going to win is not to take those orders.

Are you the only florist in Winchester? If so, why do you belong to a wire service?
Drop them, let them phone you with a credit card # and get paid right away without having to pay membership.

They will still just suggest drop ship stating no florist in that area. That is what they're doing here...

Hal, are you kidding?

How did any florist put FTD in the situation where they are wholesale skimming under the guise of currency exchange? Go back and read BBJ's post. When told by the delivering florist they just needed to pay what was paid to them for the product, they declined - and lied to the customer saying there was 'no florist in the area.'

I fail to see how any florist 'put FTD in this situation'.

CATHY WE ENABLED THEM Years ago and they have been allowed to do whatever they want when they want to retail florists,Its a shame.

What about the consumers.............they're the one getting ripped off because only part of the moneys collected for flowers and tax is being forwarded to the florist.

The best way to "Handle it" is to dump them. I think they'll end up destroying their own company anyway so maybe its moot.

Shadow makes the POINT!

nuff said !!

Bill made the POINT! Unless florists stop ENABLING THEM, their dishonest tactics will continue.

The only way to STOP ENABLING THEM is to DIS-ENABLE THEM from your shop, and kick em to your curb.

Otherwise, it's going to be the usual WHINING and CRYING about a fore profit company, whose only need for their members is the passive streams of revenues they collect from them, while DOO-ING THEM LESS and CHARGING THEM MORE.

This clear example of a BAIT and SWITCH dishonest tactic indicating that, they have no local florist in that area to fill this order, and offering one of their DROP SHIP FARM DIRECT OPTIONS, surely has got to SMACK A FLORIST UPSIDE THEIR HEAD, mee thinks?

Does Canada have their own version of the Better Business Bureau or some type of consumer watchdog group?

THe fact of the bait and swith, the skimming, coupled with the fact that a florist laid this trap and they told the florist that there was no florist in town......when they were in fact TALKING WITH A FLORIST.......seems to me this is prime material to submit to authorities for criminal investigation or consumer investigationa d reorting at the very least.

The relationship between real florists and the WS is like an abusive marriage. They use us, call us a names, hit us, disprespect us and tell us no one else will want us. Then they turn on the charm and apologize, wine, and dine us when we want a divorce. It is like an insecure spouse being manipulated into thinking they can't live without them. It is a sick and twisted relationship. We need counceling and a good attorney!

Internet customers are now getting smarter everyday.

Some know that there is a florist in BBJ Town, since they had already sent something before. THey will just redo a search and find BBJ.

Now there is some Consumer like to be conned and belive what they say.

I get calls everyday and the first question is: Are you in Elliot Lake!
That means people are making sure where the florist lives.
Now there is still OG that will lie to get the order and tell them yes!

We need to keep educating the public.

BTW, I am giving another talk this month at a horticultural meeting.
I will slide coments about ordering online.

Many who call us now ask where we are located; a marked increase during the past year or so, so much so that even Jane and Ashley comment about it now and then.

I am going to start putting an educational postcard on every order except sympathy. I am going to add a few educational lines on my invoices. Every thing that I send out or a customer sees will address the issue of WS and OGs. I am currently making a poster for my store too.
