I had made a post on the Canada Convention thread about FTD not having a convention this year, FTD called me this morning telling me something new they are trying this year. She said in a couple of days it will show up on their website about what she called "Convention On The Show" where FTD will be having mini conventions with speakers & seminars in 5 cities that have floral/gift shows (ie Dallas Market, Atlanta, etc).

this is where FTD.....

has found great strategic importance in moving it's florist conventions around several times a year, to look after the needs of florists everywhere!!
It's an important change...see for more positive moves in the near future!!

The onlypositive thing FTD could do for the industry is to go out of business. One florists opinion.

Intersting idea but lots and lots of distractions. Their showing at Dallas in July was pitiful...very few vendors that had anything to really offer other than MAS, Syndicate and a few othes but I for one thought it stunk. And if they continue to have the "conventions" or "mini-gatherings", then they have to change the dates to be when the markets are open with the temporaries or it is another waste of time. Besides, it certainly would keep us from getting a nationwide consensus wouldn't it? I know in Dallas some fo the management got put on the hot seat and squirmed a lot so maybe this is a way of diffusing us....so this means Holly, JB and I would all go to different events....guys this is for their benefit...keeps us from gangin up on them....imho.I'd probably pass but maybe that is the point eh?

I Think the biggest question a florist has to answer is: Ist it worth my while to go to and how will I profit from it? versus the cost occured.
I notice at the last OFC, most people attended the dinner and Free drinks after and for the seminars anddesign show, the interest was not evident compare to the dinner. I will say that we are treated very nice at the OFC, but I felt that I did'nt get much for my buck spent.
I signed up last year for this year OFC, but after much thinking and talking with Debbie, It looks like we will NOT BE GOING THIS YEAR.
I rather visit with my friends in a better relaxing quiet ambiance.
SUre you get free lodging, which many people arrived to take the free lodging instead of coming a extra day to be with florist. I am a florist that would like to see more at the OFC espcially during the day on Sat instead of bunching up things on sunday and being rushed to finish the show so we can come home.

Does FTD have the OFC listed? I didn't see it on the calender events, there are many southern states listed in June, July, and August for state conventions, but I guess the northeast isn't part of FTD?

Nope...we're seceding from the game:rolleyes:

Hey Boss? Do you remember when small bob tried those MINI CONVENTIONS around the Country in addition to the ONE BIG ONE?

Well, at least we gots a FREE ROOM, for which wee really paid for, out of him back in 1999 down in Atlantic City.

Anyway, in my umble opinion, they can't keep up the myth any longer and other than some of the newbie cheerleaders who have yet to have a clue, I suspect they really don't want to have to deal with the THRONGS nor the EXPENSES anymore.

So, Pluck your magic twanger FROGGY, and PHOOF!, all gone, NO MORE!

While they're RE-CEDING, we'll BEE RESEEDING and thus, new FORESTS of FLORISTS will begin to grow!
