FREE VASE CELEBRATION - Have one hand delivered today!

Guess this FTD scam one-ups 1-800's 'Free Delivery' scam.

I know, I know, it's all just marketing.... so when your customers say these companies are cheaper and ask why your vases aren't free....

"I know, I know, it's all just marketing.... so when your customers say these companies are cheaper and ask why your vases aren't free...."

I think my reply to the customer that makes that sort of challenge would be something like this. "Yes, we charge $44.95 for that vase, but it comes with flowers and a 100% guarantee that you will get the service that you should and would expect from a local florist." ;)

I would like to know two things.

First, where are all the stems compared to the flowers?

2., How are thos alstromeria sprigs going to stay hydrated? They don't look like they are on the main stem.

Joe

I hate these ads!

They are using the same trick that Teleflora uses on some of it's container ads.....My rep told me this one......There is a small dish on top of the vase with a bit of oasis and the flowers in that....and the few stems glued to the bottom to 'RESEMBLE" a vase arrangement. He said that sometime they resort to that in order to showcase a pattern on a particular vase to aid in photography.

Guys -

FTD Is really pushing the 'Free Vase' promo (delivered by local florists) through Florist.com and email marketing.

We all know it's not true and you tell me if the two products from FTD.com vs Florist.com don't prove it:

Florist.com
Red Medium Stem Rose Bouquet with FREE Vase $ 49.99

FTD.com
Red Rose Bouquet - $39.99 - 12 Roses only, $48.99 - 12 Roses with Vase

Some of the long-time FTD catalog products are also shown as being in 'free vases' - http://www.florist.com/free-vase-celebration-ctg/product-promo-special/ - including 'Burst of Color' and 'Pacific Paradise'.

Does anyone know if the Florist.com retail prices for the items are different than the Suggested Retail Prices FTD has used all along?

Interflora ruled against in UK

Last week Interflora were ruled against by our Advertising Authorities for falsly claiming Free delivery. Tha adjudication is here.

Given they have increased the delivery charge by ï½£1 and now openly said it's not being passed on to florists but retained for developement costs methinks they are playing a dangerous game.

so this is ASA' s recommendation??......

Action
We told Interflora not to use the claim "Free Delivery" in ads for services that incurred a delivery charge. We advised them to consult the CAP Copy Advice team for help with future promotional mailings.

Interflora will be so scared!!

From your F&WB article:
"Free UK standard delivery worth ï½£4.99. Order must exceed ï½£24.99.
Do you know if the local Interflora members were compensated by Interflora for the deliveries or if members were required to deliver the orders for "free"?

I actually don't know how it works. As far as I'm aware it's all included so therefore answer is no but need to ask the question of IF florists. Will let you know.

Don't start giving the powers that be any more ideas of how to get more money from the IF members.
So far any of these give aways like a free box of chocolates have been funded by HQ. As far as I can remember the free delivery was the same.

Partially Funded At Best..

Oh do they love to give away any last chance of a crumb of profit for poor florist,we are reimbursed at the cost price of the giveaway item...so no profit on that portion of delivery......actually a loss because if you dont order a certain amount, of lets say chocs ,they whack a delivery charge on them(hey thats fine i relate to that)but when they only give you back cost, your outtta pocket...sameold sameo..
I really loved "RWK" eye opener with regard to illusion on the vase display, glueing stems to the bottom of a saucer and then making a small arrangement in the top to best create a visual for customers WTF???,.....gob smacked i am....poor executing florist is really up against it...what tricks can we use, when customer aint best pleased????

don't think they can

reject !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again need UK IF's to confirm but as I understand it they don't have the same options as you becasue as I understand it they are only allow to reject 3 or 4 orders a month and then get fined £5 ($10)

However you seem to have other systems and it would help to understand them better:
What is a forward
How do your rejections work? Can you reject as many as you like or is this to do with this timely fashion charge that's come in.
What is an ASK?
Are there any other things you can do if the order isn't within your capabilities/desires.

Carrie

Carrie - Yes we can reject as many as we like with no penalty other than the receiving fee.

If the sun isn't shining is a good enuf excuse in my shop - or better yet - because we felt like it.

An ask in an inquiry, a PRC is an ask with a price change request.

and yes, you can always forward, except for ftd.com orders. Justflowers used to say they couldn't be forwarded but it never stopped me.

Jon, Wondering what your thoughts are on the star program, and the effort to keep track of rejects? Do you think this will come into play for a shop of your volume? Or not so much, because you do so much sending? ~Melissa

I'm gonna start a new thread on this one - good idea
