Just got off the phone with my rep. Here's the scenario as he looks at it-
FTD tech service has had so many clueless florists who are getting caught with viruses, worms, etc and having to call Tech Services to get the problems straightened out that they have decided to give us FREE OF CHARGE and NO yearly subscription fees, Norton Antivirus. Those of us who do have a clue and already have our systems protected by any other means must pay the fee of $15/month if we do NOT utilize the Norton's (which will be FREE every year, every day-Free updates-Free upgrades). It is NOT a ploy to increase revenue, just to keep Tech Service from helping out those florists who do not have common internet and email sense. I told him I would feel much better if they charged the $15 to the florist who had to call Tech Services with their virus, worm, etc problems. He'll pass that on......
Anyone else hear from their rep??

I have mulling this over for a few days.

If FTD can log into your computer and fix software problems, why can't they check and see what type of antivirus software you have.

For me, I subscribe to Norton's Small Business Corporate Pack. If I already have it why can't they just check and see that I have it and leave me alone.

I don't want to upgrade to Windows XP, just to satisfy FTD's need to know that I have some sort of AV software.

Joe, I questioned that also as the computer I use for MercDirect has a version of Nortons. I was told that I needed to load the program they sent me so it would be FREE. That was the big word, free updates, free upgrades etc. He didn't get it. I can not nor will not load their version of Nortons onto a computer which I already have it running on. He says "we're paying the price for the florists without a clue" plain and simple. Unless all "computer savvy" FTD florists @@@@@ to the higher ups, this will be mandated. We'll all pay the $15 / month extra for a tech service we probably will never use. My words to him was "Educate those florists who seem to have a problem with not understanding safety and protection of their computers and have to call Tech Support to straighten out their computers after they get attacked". No go, his words, "I'm not going to argue about it, that is the way it will be, guess you'll have to use the phone". Hmm, guess I'll just be wire free quicker. And they lose a 30 year member.

When is free not free?

How about the $2.00 monthly maintenance fee for Nortons? Did you miss this information that FTD will be charging this to your clearing house statement?

The CD is FREE......

the Enterprise edition is FREE, and the "back door" entry theory is incorrect!!
FTD has spent an ENORMOUS amount of money providing ALL it's members with THE MOST up to date protection possible!!....FREE of charge!!
The BIGGEST issue right now, is MANY florists continue to use old outdated PCs with out of date software, and have NOT done religious updates, that are running into install problems with this CD!!
By the way, the "install key" is universal.....you COULD install this protection on EVERY PC you own....FREE OF CHARGE (huge savings for those that know how much this is worth!!)...even on servers, running server software platforms!!
You DIDN'T hear this from me!!

That would be nice is Norton wasn't a bloated piece of crap. I guess it is better than nothing but it is the last virus software I would choose.
