Heavy rain pounded the Rose Parade on Monday for the first time in a half century, sending hundreds fleeing while die-hard fans fought to steady their umbrellas in strong winds and parade participants proudly marched on as if it were sunny and warm....
The Sweepstakes award - the parade's top honor for the float with the "most beautiful entry with outstanding floral presentation and design" - went, fittingly, to the float sponsored by the FTD flower delivery company.

It was a beautiful float. They were all stunning.

We had some FC members working on those floats. :)

In this post rich said
I am off for two or three days to work on a float for the Rose Parade again this year----China Airlines.
That float won the International Award for being chosen the 'most beautiful entry from outside the continental US.' It was stunning.

Rich's partner Scott was selected to be one of the three float judges a few years back. (No florists were present in that group this year.)

I *think* FlowerDiva (Kim) and her mom worked at Fiesta Floats, the company that built FTD's.

Hope both of these members share their experiences with us. If anyone else from FC worked on the parade, let us know.

The weather here was brutal compared to normal Pasadena parade day standards with the rain was coming down in buckets at several points. I really noticed the workmanship as the top float companies' flowers and gluing staying in place and in good condition. A few of the floats (self-built or small company) showed large gaps in glued areas where the dried materials simply washed away.

The floats will be on display at a park in Pasadena for the next few days if anyone wants to hop a plane.

Congratulations to all who had the honor and the experience of working on the floats.

To bad FTD's "your wish is our command" was not thier slogan to the Real Florist. I nearly fell over laughing when I saw the picture with the caption.
