I am new to the floral business.

I do not have any formal floral education.

I found FlowerChat via a google search of 'Florist Message Boards'

With a membership at FlowerChat I hope to expand my knowledge base of the industry. I hope to learn from other's experiences as well as share my own.

My expertise is in Finance & Accounting, however I have a passion for people and marketing.

Good morning and thank you for answering the questions on the intro page. It does help in getting to know you a bit better.

Please tell us more about you and your business... and out of curiosity, why are you changing websites?

Thanks.

V

Hi! I'm curious about the website change also. Does that mean that you are switching from Teleflora to FTD? Are you the owner of your shop?

Good luck with that URL....being one that the FTD lawyers took to task myself over FTDUSA years ago (they won) I'd suggest rethinking that one before you put too much work into it.

Welcome to the community tho...we're glad you found us.

I am curious with a background of finance and accounting... and new to the floral industry why did you go into the floral field

I should probably change my user name... :)

Answers to your questions:

1. Why a flower shop, when my background is in Accounting? My wife is going to run the business day-to-day once I have everything up and running smoothly. My wife currently has a 9-5, I do not. Her grandmother is a retired florist and works in our shop. My role was/is to #1, remodel the shop, front end (95% complete) and back of the shop (working on it now) #2, get everything setup with wire services and other vendors while minimizing monthly fixed overhead costs.

2. FTD did have a problem with my domain name. However, I'm not relinquishing it to them at the moment. They can buy the domain name from me if they choose. The site is not active. I currently have a site with Teleflora, thefinishingtouchorlando.com and wanted to setup one with FTD, which they'll be happy to do, provided I pick a URL that does NOT include their three magical and 'famous' letters.

Changing your user name may be a really good idea. ;)

Hello, welcome and thank you for answering the questions. Enjoy the community. There is much to learn here.

I too would refrain from using the FTD part of your website........but not for a possible Cease & Desist or lawsuit threat - simply with the reputation, amount of online customer complaints lodged at one blog or complaint site or the other......and the negative connotations - I would not want that association.

However.......If you did want to keep it......then I'd buy about a hundred to hundred and fifty or so variations of that name.......including things like orlandoflorist, floristorlando, and most other incarnation that a potential order gatherer/ middleman would use.

In fact - whether or not you activated the ftdorlando.com site or not or went with something totally different.....I'd still buy up as many domain names as I possibly could.......just to prevent them from gaining a foothold.....especialy the more underhanded ones.....similar to what Tom Meola would pull using the phone book.
