I should be starting a casket spray but I am so mad I just had to warn all of you against making the same mistake I did by buying a Fugi Finepix F70EXR camera which turned out to be a real lemon. Maybe they do make some good cameras but I will never know since their warranty and customer service are so bad that I would never trust them ever again.I paid $329.00 for the camera so it was not expensive but it was not cheap.
I was talked into this camera by a salesman at London Drugs. I now believe that they are given incentives to sell certain products because the salesman raved about the camera when I bought it but when I went back to say there were problems another salesman told me there are numerous problems with Fugi cameras and that I would have to send it back to Fugi and it would take about 8 to 10 weeks to fix.
I am not going to go into all the details because it would take too long but suffice it to say that from day one there were numerous problems. Calls to the Fugi helpcenter were not returned. Waits online are so long that after half an hour you give up and leave your number for them to call but they don't. Emails are never answered-the list goes on and on.
Finally I did send the camera back to them which was under a supposed warranty. Yesterday I got an email from them saying they were denying the warranty because they found a small scratch on the metal inside of the lens. I took excellent care of the camera and certainly did not scratch it myself.I wouldn't even know how to get inside the lens to scratch it if I wanted to. The scratch they found might explain why from day one the lens constantly froze and the zoom would only work occassionally. They said the camera was unfixable and offered me a "reinstated slightly cosmetically defective" camera to replace it for $180.00 or I could pay them another $25 for them to send my useless camera back. I honestly don't know how they are still in business if this is how they treat their customers. After paying $329.00 for the camera and another $50 for a new battery I bought incase the problems were caused by a defective battery there is no way I would give them one more cent. I called them and after waiting 40 minutes online my call was finally answered. I tried to explain that there was no way I damaged the camera and that it was damaged from day one. I had not even raised my voice and was explaining I even bought another battery and the call was either disconected or they hung up on me. Honestly I have never been treated this way before and just want to warn you all if you are thinking of buying a new camera either for business or personal use stay away from Fugi unless you want to waste your money on a useless piece of junk because if there are any problems they could really care less.

my mom bought a nikon broken in the box and they gave us the same run around...I told them to shove their camera and their waranty and took the loss...broken out of the box...the store she bought it from wouldn't help either, I guess all cameras are yours once you buy them and manufacture has say on wether or not you are worthy of fixing their crap products...this is becoming a trend in returning merchandise at a whole lot of retail stores, they refer you to deal with the manufacturer instead of them refundung and ealing with the manufacturer...one more way they can save you money....no leg work for them and no money back after the purchase...big boxes are just great aren't they..

Unfortunately I used my debit card. I just went through this same warranty thing with my floral cooler. I had a 10 year warranty on a Coldstar cooler and it still has 4 years left on the warranty. This time Coldstar went bankrupt two years ago and closed. My cooler broke down just at Christmas this year so I called thinking it just needed servicing which is usually done early February but was told there was a leak in the coil and since Coldstar closed not only is there no warranty but they didn't know if they would even be able to find any new parts for it. Fortunately they found a retailer in Vancouver that had bought up all the parts he could knowing they would be in demand because Coldstar was the most popular floral cooler in Canada. $2000 later and my cooler is fixed and then I go through this again with my camera.I'm just cringing at what might be next since if things come in threes I still have one more to go.
It seems warranties are not worth the paper they are written on and the extended warranties some people are talked into buying are even worse.
Lori, After doing a lot of research and talking to people I just bought a new Nikon to replace the Fugi. Now after hearing your story that might not have been such a good idea. I think all products can have lemons but its really shameful the way companies treat their customers when they do have a problem and after they have your money they really couldn't care less.

Dianne,
I would sent an e-mail to your local daily newspaper's consumer advocate -they eat this stuff up and will likely contact Fuji on your behalf.
Nothing works like a little bad press!
Good luck.

That really sucks. I have to say I had a Fuji camera for 7 years and loved it. Never had any problems with it. My husband just bought me a new camera for Christmas (a Nikon). It wasn't quite the model I wanted so I took it back to Walmart where he had purchased it intending to exchange it. They didn't have the model I wanted so they totally refunded his money-after I had used the camera and taken pictures with it. I don't understand why it's so inconsistent....

One thing that struck me from the few comments in this thread, was that the cameras were not purchased at a local camera store...

I understand saving a few bucks, but not forfeiting service... When I bought my Nikon D80, I could have saved over $100 at Wally World, and $2-300 online... but I would have given up the free classes of teaching me how to use it, and the ability to drop it off to have it cleaned inside and out, and service when needed.

Just something to think about...

Mark-
I really try not to shop at Walmart....but in our small town of 8000 it was the only place to buy one (and my husband isn't one to go shopping out of town). There is no camera shop in our town. I was actually glad I had return it and spend my money eslewhere. Unfortunately, the elsewhere ended up being Best Buy because it was the only place that was open when I had a chance to get to another location to look for a different model (ended up with the Nikon D3100 BTW-after much debate between that and the D5000) as it was New Years weekend and the local shops were closed. Such is the way it goes.

Debit cards have the same protection as credit cards.

Oh and Kodak easy share camera all the way. I even dropped it in the sand on the beach. Most of my pics are taken with that camera.

It's a cheap, easy and idiot proof- I work it just fine! :)

Mark,

I did buy my new camera- a Nikon- at a local camera store. I learned my lesson with the Fuji and I wanted to talk to someone that deals only in cameras. The price ended up being the same as the big box stores and they also offered a free one hour one on one lesson with the camera which I will be doing next week on my day off. They also had an excellent tri-pod that was a really good deal.I am just hoping the Nikon proves to be better than the Fuji. At this point after experiencing two worthless warranties in the last month(the Fuji camera and my floral cooler) I don't trust any warranties.
