I have a fun challenge to create a giant hanging flower arrangement to mimic the shape of the site chandeliers. The chandeliers can be seen in the last picture on this page: http://www.thetwentiethcenturyclub.com/2nd floor.html
They will be hung from the balcony so the logistics of hanging/ support are easy. There will be two of these fairly large arrangements (about three feet in length and 1.5" in width) and we are hanging large pomander balls in between. The theme of the wedding is Mid Summer Night's Dream which means we are using a lot of woodsy elements like ferns branches and succulents, greenery, lush flowers and a few "magical elements" of crystals and feathers. The colors are brown, green and yellow.
The chandeliers will be made of ferns, moss, feathers, lots of crystals and orchids and everything will be loose yet still maintain the shape and look of the chandeliers. My biggest challenge is to decide on the base for this design. I originally thought that I could find a large potted fern with an open wire cage base and use that as the center and add the flowers in water tubes and other elements with wire. However, I'm beginning to think that this may get too heavy to transport and set up.
Now I'm leaning towards creating a frame of chicken wire as the base. I'm trying to avoid using lots of Oasis. I'm also planning to make as much of the base ahead of time with potted or live plants and add the flowers close to the event- or even on site.
I'm wondering if anyone here has any suggestions on the base or mechanics. I have 100% freedom on design. This is also only of those rare times when budget is not necessarily an issue. (Like I said this is a fun project!)
