Funeral postponed!

A florist friend just got a call from the funeral home, telling her, the funeral was cancelled (24 hr prior to the funeral) and the three pieces she did for that funeral will have to be held for another 5 days. She didn't mind since this funeral home gives her lots of business and she just had to change out some flowers to use it for another funeral the following day.

Did anyone ever hear of such a thing..... the funeral was cancelled!!
It was due to non-payment. Apparently the funeral home has been stuck before and their policy is "pay first" or No Funeral. I asked her what do they do with the deceased..... goes in the freezer, I guess.

We've had them postponed because of weather but never heard of non-payment. I can't believe the funeral home let it out that it was non-payment that is not very unprofessional in my book. We also had one moved back a couple of days becasue of a mix up of a body being shipped from one state to another and paper work not filled out.

I have seen that happen a couple of times in my small town. Each time it was canceled because the family were known deadbeats....so no one was surprised.

But, because of their reputation, there were very few flowers ordered and they were just very small.

Here, if the family can't afford the funeral, the city pays for it.
They have very strict rules, too.
one visiting about an hour before the service, then a short service, then done. The casket is not wood, but fiberboard (think Ikea).
