I have a wedding tomorrow with fresh gardenias and it's going to be close to 90. I've been holding off on making it until last minute (tomorrow morning) and have kept them in the boxes in the cooler. The only other time I used gards it was 50 degrees out and they held up great.

Does anyone have any tricks to keeping the gards fresh during delivery (2 hours away) and throughout the day? It will be transported in it's own cooler.

I do as you know strange things but for me it works, The wedding I had last weekend all gardenias,,we left them in the box they came in an lightly misted with milk, it keeps the things from turning black, I really can't stand them,,sorry, up to my arse in Phels today,,,another of the favorite things,not..Be safe in this heat..

a tip from FDI (i think that is what it is Floral Design Institute) from UBloom.........keep your hands wet when working with them. Coat with crowning glory or floramist....

GREAT tips in that video! Thanks. I knew about the wet hands but would never actually think to use white out or talcum powder.

Oh the tricks we use... speaking of which, I forgot to mention that this is a white hydrangea/ gardenia bouquet. I'm using the condom trick for the hydrangeas. I guess the million dollar question is, do you flowerchatter's save those condom recipets to show to your accountant??

Queen, does the milk take away from the natural gardenia fragrance (or even add it's own fragrance after awhile?)

do you have any of the old crown??? use that, I sprayed a hydangea with full strength crown On April 16 and finally got sick of looking at it and threw it out about 3 1/2 weeks later. Also had roses in it, and still looked good, Mother's day was coming so it had to go.

I don't know what i'm gona do when I have no crown left. Think I'll go work at mcdonalds.

A lot of veteran florists tell me to coat the gardenia in lemon juice to help preserve it.....I have tried it and not found any change. The best method I have found is to use the floor wax dipping method I decribed in the above mentioned thread.

I frequently use gardenias and it won't be below 90 here until maybe October. I always wear latex gloves when working with them. I have always heard that it is the oils from your hands that make them turn. I spray with CG or Finishing Touch or whatever I'm using at the time at spray them several times. Let them dry, put back in cooler and then spray again a couple of hours later. Never a problem.
