Eight years ago I planted some Fritillaria 'Imperialis'. They flowered well for five years and then started coming up blind. They also started producing more stalks but also without flowers.

Last year I dug them up and split them and re-planted them using peat moss and manure. I thought that by splitting them and adding more organic matter and the manure they would flower. No they did not. I now have over thirty and not one of them has flowered. Other spring bulbs will flower, not these.

They are good for zones 8 to 5. I am in zone 6. I have not tested my soil.

Any suggestions from the gardeners?

Doug

Thanks for the input.
Do mulch, did not plant 8 inches deep.

On my walk around the garden this evening I noticed some have buds so I will cross my fingers or green thumb and hope to see some flowers. They are really quite dramatic.

You do something in a garden and you only get one chance a year to see if it works or not.
