I have a bride that wants each side of the wedding aisle lined with fresh green garland. Pre-made garland has gotten so expensive. Need about 100 ft. What is everyone doing as a substitute? Thanks in advance
Smilax (sp?) seems to come bagged already garland like and then I twist some long pulmosa around it if I want a darker green. Also you might give her a quote on the pre-made garlands incase it works in her budget. Maybe she would be open to some plants lining the aisle which you could rent.
I've used a garland maker before, but you have to experiment in order to know how much product it would take, and there's a knack to using it, if you don't wind tight enough it will fall apart. I've made shorter ones for a hawiian wedding and used paddle wire.
I use a garland maker also, but it is $$$ to make it look good--if they can afford it fine,
otherwise I suggest a nice pew bow-marker and drape tulle or lace ribbon up and over
Works great if they want to have crowd control--can undo one aisle at a time
I know, it's a real problem with the pre-made being so expensive and I don't want to mess with making 100 ft. of it. I am going to suggest that we use a fabric or ribbons.
Helen, I pay 9.50 (wholesale)for a smilax strand so actually it is a lot less expensive than the pre-made.
Thanks for the input! You got my brain moving in the right direction
