I've always loved working with flowers. My passion is growing them and creating beautiful gardens. Through the years I’ve learned I have a knack for arranging them. Since I wish to stay at home with my young boys I felt my talent could become a cottage business. So I took the plunge. Yes, I filed papers with Rockland County NY and have my Tax ID papers and Business Certificate doing business as Gloria C. Battista Collins. I’ve checked with my local Village and they require permits if I plan to have people coming to my home. My plan is not to be a shop open for the public for now until I go through the Planning Board. Hope file for next year.
Most of my training has been by just learning as I go (honestly) is that bad? But I also took Classes in NYC given by the Jane Packer School. There I was instructed in the basics and was given possitive feed back from my instructor Ivy.
I learned of your organization through “florist”/ www.chicfloral.com that I follow on Twitter. I've been on Twitter to familiarize myself with “Pros” in the business. Twitter has proven to be a great tool. I do however need “hands on coaches/mentors” with experience and wanted to connect with an organization that could help me reach my goals. I must admit I know the flower business is a bit private and I respect that. However, please know that I am sincere about my dreams and hope to be an active participant in your industry.
