Gerald Ford Funeral Flowers - Disgust with OG

I ran across this one at Digg.com. "Where to send flowers and donations to Gerald Ford".

Drop-ship affiliate of GrowerFlowers.com flogging DIY boxes and/or FTD arrangements. As you can see, I added a comment to the Digg post. Does anyone else find this type of OG promotion completely tasteless?

"You have got to be kidding…you are nothing but a middleman…why not tell the public that you will charge them extra money as a “service” fee or for “delivery” and then not send that onto the REAL FLORIST. This is worse than ambulance chasing…very poor job of putting your face in the public’s eye! For those consumers who want to honor his memory and send a floral tribute, ask your Real Local Florist for help."

Florist Prepares for Ford Funeral, and Remembers the Former President

Very nice article about Eastern Floral of Grand Rapids, MI and their long-standing relationship of providing flowers for the Ford Family.

Flowers are often an important part of any funeral celebration. Flowers were also an important part of Gerald and Betty Ford's life together.

Bing Goei took over the business a few years ago and hopes to continue the connection with the Ford family. He says, “This is the one that was one of his favorites to send to friends and especially his wife Betty." This is a white orchid. Goei says, “It reflects the stories we hear about his wonderful relationship with his wife Betty, for so many years. There was a romantic side to President Ford that maybe some of us don't know."

Our friend, and Phil's mentor, Silverio Casabar was the Ford's florist in Palm Springs and he too mentioned the family's preference for orchids.

The Ford family is asking donations be made to the Gerald R. Ford Fund in lieu of flowers. But, those at Eastern Floral say many people still like to also give flowers.
