Hello all, quick question, I am wondering if Gerbera daisies wilt faster in a bout or corsage than say a rose or carn. If so.... Does anyone have suggestions on how I can keep them perky most of the day for my customers.... I usually make them the night before and put them in my cooler but I think I will make them in the morning.... Any input would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!!!

In the uk we do them the night before and put them in the fridge, but if you have time i would advise doing them in the morning. Gerberas this time of year are not very good quality (over here in my neck of the woods anyway). Just give them a good spray of water, maybe someone from over the pond has better advice with your better weather.

I spray them with Petal Proofer from Design Master. I find it works better than crowning glory to keep their perkiness. I spray them front and back and put in cooler to dry for a few minutes before I work with them. Test it and see how it works for you.

I always seal the stem end with oasis adhesive, someone told me that does help. So far no complaints.

gerera corsages and bouts

Not only do they wilt more quickly, but they are very easily damaged in the "hug-fest" that is a wedding.
For those reasons, we don't make them. If a bride requests them, I explain the drawbacks and suggest something else in a color and feeling that complements the wedding.
I know from previous discussions that some FC-ers feel that it is our job to give customers what they want. Most of the time I would agree. However, I also feel that it is my responsibility-- as the professional they have chosen--to guide them to make the best choices.
I have never had anyone insist on a gerbera corsage or boutonniere after learning of their frailties and being presented with an appropriate option.

EXACTLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are the PROFESSIONALS. We should guide our customers to assist them in making the best choice that will not only MEET but EXCEED their wants.

What they want may not be the best choice for them. We have a responsibility to that client to guide them in their choices.

btw - The above post by Patty got her a greenie from me, I wish I could give a hundred for that statement.
