Our '04 Sonata GL has served us well, but our growing family needs more room. After much deliberation and tire-kicking, we've set our sights on the new Hyundai Veracruz. Nicely appointed, 7 passenger, with the all-important easy access to the third row!

The price in Canada? $47,540 YEOWCH!!

Imagine my joy / frustration when I found out that the same vehicle in the USA is priced to go at $33,800.

So, I have a car we want to lease, a dealer willing to sell, I've been through the RIV website ... all I need is a leasing company!

Argh!!

I'm still exploring options, but it seems like it shouldn't be that hard. Really. I'm waiting to hear back from several, but many just aren't interested. Fournier leasing in Oakville specializes in these cross-border deals, so I'm hoping they can help.

I'll keep posting updates as they happen :)

there's a good leasing company not far from you, down Dundas street towards the big city.
I'll look up the name/number, and let you know!!

I have not tried this site yet, but I was told to give it a try when I am ready to buy a new vehicle. We are also in the market for a new one for Debbie.
THis companies suppose to go out and get you the best possible deal on the vehicle of your choice.

Give them a try and see the results.http://carcostcanada.com/1/en/default.asp
Our friend swore he save major dollars.
Best of Luck.

My father in law just purchased a new Hyunda Santa Fe, and it is alot larger than my 2002 Santa Fe. Also has stability control and he got it for about 23k US, loaded with everthing except leather. Not sure how big your family is, but it is a great small SUV for the price.

Why don't you

Why don't you get a loan, but not a car loan. Then come into the States and buy the car cash. For $48,000 you can buy a new BMW X5 and they have room for 7 plus good gas mileage.

Thanks, Luc. I agree with your friend - that site is a great way to save money. They don't find the best price, but they do give you info to negotiate a better price. I used this site to get a great deal on our Sonata.

No question, the Sante Fe is nice. It's what we went into the dealership to see, before the Veracruz caught my eye. The 7 passenger Santa Fe doesn't have great access to the third row, and the storage is non-existent with the back seats up. Veracruz is a little nicer inside, better access and a bit more storage.

Thanks, sfox ... but the $48k USD is a little more than I can spend. $33k is much more my style - although at the high end of my style :) We are considering your suggestion, though - possibly buying the vehicle then doing a buy-back lease. Or, with the Hyundai 10 yr warranty ... just keep it for a bit.
