I know I've been quiet lately, but I figured I'd let those who will wonder know that I'm going on vacation/to Pennsic and will be gone from the 13th until the 23th.

For those types that are curious about what Pennsic is...

Cool little world you have there Audra, loved the swedish chef translation, maybe should get Buddy whasisname and the other fellas to do a page in Newfounese. Do you get to be a baudy wench for a couple of weeks or does hubby keep you as his private serving maid.

Looks like much fun! Hope everything goes well for you :)

PS - Bring pictures!

Hey that's really cool Audra!

My husband and I love the medieval era. He came like that, I caught on. He's very chivalrous like they were. I'm sure one day when we move into a real house or dwelling place we will have a room totally decked out in medieval decor. Can't really do anything like that living here in the shop. Sure loved looking at that site. Looks like you will have a total blast!!! I'm envious, in a good way! :) He calls me "wench" many times and sometimes people look at us really funny like it's disrespectful. For us, it is a term of endearment and after people are around us for a while they see that. Is the game always "ON" or are there specific "Game" times? I sure wish you a most wonderful vacation Audra!!!

LOL - there's a whole barony full of Newfs - they don't have that option because the site is American and don't have the fine appreciation of Newfies that we do (my mom's best friend lives in St. Johns).

And no, I don't do baudy wench - having worn one for my wedding, I can say those corsets are a b*tch. I'm going to take lots and lots of pictures (I have a digital camera with several memory cards.

I am *so* looking forward to this.

My husband and I are avid medievalists but our home isn't like that. Our spare room is our medieval room - it's a nice little retreat.

Thanks, I hope we'll have a blast. At Pennsic - it's always "on" more or less. It's two full weeks of medieval recreationist fun - battles, camping, clothing, classes, food and shopping. This is the big daddy of all SCA events (http://www.sca.org) - there are other "wars" but Pennsic is the big one.

It's going to be nice to leave Audra behind at home and my medieval self (Nadrah) for a while.

Audra who has the advantage a guy using a sword or someone with a battle axe? I think the sword would have the advantage.
D.

I could give you the short answer and say **** but it's not that simple.

It would depend greatly on the man. The object of the game (I hate that word) is to inflict as much 'damage' as possible in a short period of time. Both axes and swords are capable of doing a lot of damage - what is telling is where their advantages and disadvantages lie.

If it's a one on one fight, the axe has the disadvantage in that axes were traditionally on short shaft so you needed to get in close. Swords are great if you have a lot of room to fight, one on one. In a melee (close quarters mass fights), I'd put my money on an axe man.

At Pennsic in the large battles, I'll try and take some good photos of what the fights look like and post the URL to the list.

LOL - you'd have to talk to my husband about that one. I warn you now, he's a Viking and they get a little testy... ;) I mostly send him out to play mashie-pow with the other big kids in the field - I should have some interesting pictures.
