Here a fabulous report recapping the hottest tips about Local Search gleaned from last weekend's SMX Local/Mobil conference.

A couple notable summaries:
A business痴 rating can be even more important than ranking. For instance if your business has five stars and all of your competitors average between 2.5 and 3, even if you are further down the page there痴 a good chance you値l have the highest clickthrough. Chris Silver Smith pointed out later in the conference that clickthrough rate may in fact influence RANKING as a signal to the search engines of the highest-quality Local Listings, so in this manner higher ratings may lead to higher rankings indirectly.
Superpages and Citysearch had a much higher cost per visitor than Google Adwords due to the low click volume葉he economics made no sense when including the ad agency fee.
It's a "must read" for anyone focused on local. :)

Thanks for Posting Website/Tech Info on Forum

Just a THANK YOU to Cathy, Ryan and all the others who post tech. info, website info, and all the other stuff that is not flower related but so important to the success of our businesses. I read it all and learn from it!!

By the way Cathy is FTD still hijacking my Yahoo Local listing in your area? (you had called me to say it was still showing in CA. back in Feb. I think)
Six months after leaving them, they are back on my search results...

This is just one of the reasons, we all need this web info.

Just made a site for my son's business, getting ready to publish it today.

Again, thanks to all who post "how to" info. for websites on this forum.

Superpages Bye Bye

As of today the bounce rate for our superpages advertizing has reached its highest point.

From January this year to July I have watched as the bounce rate has increased from below 20% to as of today 79%.

Advertizing started with ads appearing on superpages.com and began to spiral down with less ads appearing on superpages and more appearing on search partner sites.

This month I have recieved zero clicks from superpages.com and refering traffic has know been shifted to all clicks from search partner sites.

I hope this information helps all of you!!

Smx

was great - lots of good information. Thanks for posting the wrap up Cathy, I still have lots of notes to go through but this does very well to touch on the highlights and most of the important stuff.

If you didn't find the slide presentation and study done by Blumenthal, Mihm & others you can find it here.

This is another great link from the Blumenthal blog that links to posts on each of the sessions at SMX.

Great stuff as usual Cathy!!

Eric, I dropped my superpages advertising a few months ago, not working well at all! I used to have good success with them a few years ago, what happened?

I think most people are just using the google local box now, why would they use a yellow page directory when they can just google it, its easier and faster and usually no OG's???
