So we just bought our first home and we have a big back yard (big for ABQ anyway)

there is a work shop in the back with a concrete foundationa dn even electricity!
Anyway, Donnie and I were thinking about building a green house off the side of it so we can start seeds for our garden.

Anyone have a greenhouse of your own?
The one we will build will be about 20x12..I think.

Any suggestions on what works and what don't?

OK, seriously... not much help here... ;)

Now if you were in Michigan....

Well, for what it's worth.......

Your situation is going to be totally different than mine. My dad and I built a greenhouse when I was in highschool. We just made a wooden frame and used heavy mm plastic. It got WAY too hot in there and cooked everything. We had better success with a cold-frame. Just a very short box, like 2 feet tall, with a glass window that could be propped up during the day and closed at night.

I don't know what your weather is, but for us, ventilation was the biggest issue. Our Sam's Club sells one that is made of rigid plastic that has a lot of ventilation options, it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500.00.

Any help at all?

maybe talk to Joe. He's on facebook. I would love to have a little greenhouse in my backyard, especially a heated one where I could hang out during the winter! Right now I settle for a heat mat and lights on an old dining room table that's down in the basement. I start tomatoes, peppers, petunias, etc every year. The Farm has an old vintage greenhouse that they found and moved onto their property. It's not heated, and the ventilation is manual, not automated. Still, it's lovely and great for getting the season started early.

so happy for you and your new house!

You can look at farmtek.com they sell a lot of greenhouses and equipment. I've worked in greenhouses for many years and I really miss it . but it is a lot of work. not something you can just check in on a couple of times a week. and without automated venting (isn't cheap) It gets hot fast. clouds move in and it gets cold fast. So you need to be around to adjust vents. I'm in Illinois so it's probably worse here, but you should check with people in your area as to what works for them.
So do your homework. Its fun but may take some time to make money off it.

I don't want to make money. I just want to start seedlings for our garden earlier in the year.
Just a simple little hobby.

:bloomz: just say'n~

Ok I am laughing my butt off! It would make the hobby very interesting that's for sure! Heck Shannon you'd be laughing your butt off!
