Happened yesterday and I blogged about it today -

Google Business Photos Visited Our Flower Shop

Follow the link to read the article... and hear about the process.

It was quick, easy and free. Looking forward to seeing the photos and virtual tour.

Has anyone else had G photograph their shop? How long ago? Are the photos live yet?

Yes, but google actually called me, first. The caller ID actually said google. I was set for some shyster sales pitch and was amazed when he explained what they wanted to do, all I had to do was name the date! It gave me a couple of days to put the shine on, although I didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted to because of an explosion of funeral work. But, they stress that they want pictures that will show a consumer what they can expect to see if visiting this business.

They did mine the end of June. I was so impressed with the photographer, she took about an hour and did still shots of the interior and exterior and then did the panoramic view. They are not yet live. I've hunted and the only picture I find is a very old one, maybe three years.

But.....if I type in Anytime Flowers in a google search, my listing and map come right up. I'm REALLY pleased about that. I believe that they have come a very long way in verifying businesses, and this can only help the consumers find what they are looking for......locals.

Linda -

I thought recalling your mention about the photos and checked your shop Place Page. It indicates you've never claimed the listing. (When claimed, the listing says 'owner-verified listing".

Is that correct? If so, please, please do yourself a favor and claim it ASAP. It will prevent some hijacker from snagging it - plus you'll be able to add you own content, images and video links.

Click on the link saying "Business Owner?" to get started. Be sure to be able to answer your shop phone (part of the verification process) when you initiate the claiming precess.

I'll look forward to seeing your shop pictures. :)

Eric -

Right back at you. :) We both know we could have designed a whole set of wedding flowers in the time it takes to compose and properly link a decent blog post. Sheesh, I wish I could type well.

Thanks for the reminder, Cathy! I thought I had claimed it, I uploaded the floral pix in it several years ago. But the last time I went to claim it, they wanted to phone me at the store to verify me and of course, I am always doing this sort of thing at home. I chose the letter option instead, but didn't recieve a letter with a pin number.

I just now did it again, except it says they are calling right now - pooh! I'll have to try to remember to go down to the store tomorrow and do it again.

You rock!
Linda

Google came in to shoot our photos a month or so ago.

The were very accomodating. The photographer arrived earlier than previously agreed upon, We had just received a shipment of plants that morning from Florida. She agreed to return later to allow us to display the plants.

The photos are still not online. The photographer said that the first photos she took had not been posted yet. Maybe they are waiting to put them all online at once?

I don't believe there's any impact on rankings right now since none of the images appear to have been pushed live. Not sure what will happen after they go up. I doubt there will be a change, since G's resources (teams on the ground) are limited and lots of SMBs will not get photographed.

In the article, I mentioned the photographer had a pre-set list of businesses. It sounded as though the companies were chosen based on user interest in search (I'm assuming that meant Local Search).

One of the busiest places on our block (market & bistro) was not on her list.

Google visited my store on Wednesday. Said it would take 1/2 hour. Photographer spent over and hour in my store. First was a panorama view from outside to the back.
Then he took lots of shots inside. He asked for some arrangements to shoot. He shot about 5. Said 3-4 months to get on line. Google will notify you.

Just wondering if anybody's photo shoot has made it onto their place page yet. Has anybody heard anything new?

Google came out to take the pictures nearly a YEAR ago. Still not showing on my place page although they at least changed the picture from what it used to be (a dump truck sitting in front of my building).

I only checked Cathy's and hers is not changed either.

I'm SO excited! The pix finally showed up on Google Places. Of course, the shots that show up at first glance are completely stupid so I'm going to have to figure out how to choose which three show up. I'm very disappointed that they didn't use the new shot for the outside of my building, the outside has changed quite a bit and I specifically bought all of my hanging baskets and put them up for the shot even though I had wanted to until after symposium.

Oh well, can't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Took me a bit to figure out how to navigate it. Once you are on the places page, you can select which of the three you want to view. Once that pops up, you click on the tiny yellow/gold person and that brings you to the panoramic views. There is also a couple rows of thumbnails to view individual shots. Wish she would not have taken pictures of the prices.

WAY COOL!

Here is a link to mine.

Yea, what Helen said....

Seems that Google has added some new functionality to the maps too. On the second page, when the large map shows up, there is another little yellow person that you can drag to the map anyplace you want and take a "walk" around...Does that hamburger joint with the tall sign with a star on top make good burgers? LOL...

JT'S (hamburger joint) is DELICIOUS!!! They have been there for umpteen million years. (Well, over 50 anyway....)

I also discovered while trying to change the initial pictures (still have not), that there is a separate analytics for your place page. I never knew that! First thing I did was create a coupon to see if I can get conversions from it.

It took more than a year, but Google finally put up the virtual tour they shot at our store. You can see it here and it loads at the spot where the orange building is showing on the page - right side. (Note: that orange building IS NOT our store, it's a neighboring business that is now closed. *sigh*)

The tour literally starts at the front door and you can move around by mousing with a left click - or by clicking on the arrows that appear.

The still photos have yet to go up and I'm not holding my breath waiting for them.

Still, overall I'm pleased with the results from our participation. Let me know what you think.
