If you haven't looked at Google today, you're in for a surprise.

When searchers use a city/state name as part of a search, a map is triggered - highlighting 3 listings from the town.

If you're listed in Google Local, you could be one of the featured results. The map is so prominent on the page, IMO it overshadows the Pay-Per-Clicks.

The results are uneven and there are some problems with phony local listings but it could be a rough V-Day for OGs relying on AdWords. :>

It's great if you are one of the three listed. Otherwise, you're screwed. It's a great gift to those that don't even try to SEO their websites.

Sorry to be negative, but I don't like it. Especially bad if, say, one of the most complained about florists in town is listed number 1.

Just a different point-of-view.

It seems to me they are rotating the top 3 spots. Yesterday I noticed we were not on the top 3 spots, but today when I checked we are first in the top 3 spots.

Is your site and shop info registered on Google Local/Maps?

Have you looked at who links to your site?

Have you tried to get some incoming links from local sources?

I don't think your title tag is helping you - IMO it's too long and looks more like keywords than a site title

Might try <title>Fairfield Flowers - Eugene, OR Florist: A Local Flower Shop Serving Eugene</title>

This sucks! Our competition shows up above us. Some of them don't even have websites. We've spent years building a good online presence. Shot to hell.

On this subject

Just wondering if anybody would know why the 3 florists that always show up on the Google front page with a Google search of "Florist Victoria TX" do not have any relevence to links, location from center of town, history, etc...(and are the same ones), BUT when you click on More local business results », our flower shop is always at the top and the other 3 florists are listed under us?? Just does not make any rational sense.

I'm not positive. I gave up after the fourth try at the registration. The PIN number they mailed me all four times would not work.

According to Alexa, just FSN.

Have you tried to get some incoming links from local sources?

Don't they need to be relevant? I have attempted to reciprocate links with a few sites, but it hasn't worked out. I don't know why.

Will that affect my rank? I do have it changed on a need-to-upload update. Now I need to upload it.
