Cathy, I have predicted in the future that the web will continue to evolve to be more social and is why I said retail sites will have 1 page that acts as a billboard pointing their customer base to a larger pool of like customers to a social network site with all the ecommerce, images, built in marketing ideas never before seen, services, support, etc.. built in. Why do I make such a statement? Because the static websites of today will be more dynamic in the future. There are more people signed up for mySpace and Facebook than people in the USA and Canada. Our target markets in the future are almost alien to us. My first step to this goal is poshcircle.
Google Friend Connect is pretty lame imo and there are other ways of accomplishing what it can do for florists value wise without advertising YOUR customers to join THERE service. Ask yourself why do you need customers making other customers friends? How does this help your business and what value does it bring to them? I have thought about implementing something like this on my site a long time ago, but can't figure how it will help my business and add value to my customer's life. After I launch pC tomorrow, I'll link the site from my main site. pC offers events, sales and info for my customers for value and it helps my business because I control my customer base, pull from a larger 'like' customer base and advertise events for free. If anyone is interested in setting up their own pC in their area, I can teach you for free, but it costs $30 a month from the service that hosts it. If you can wait a year or 2, and everything goes well, I'll have pC throughout the US and Canada....then I introduce webcamflorist.com.
