Google has gotten REALLY smart!

Tonight I decided to google "florist" just to see what other SEO things I could try on my website.

Google must be really smart, detecting the actual geographical area, and no, I don't have chrome.

Apparently, if somebody is on line in my area.....I'm good.....check it out!

Wow! That is amazing. I just tried it and I came up on google places on the first map page for Victoria.
The rest of the page one listings were all over the the place though- not just Victoria. It showed florists in West Vancouver on the mainland and other areas in Canada so aside from the maps section it didn't really work that well in my area. I still think its great though since it brings up google local for Victoria with the map.

I am sure that Google is reading the computer's IP address, or something to that affect, to retrieve the geographical data for searching and producing results.

Gmobile works that way... no need to enter location, I think it uses the GPS from the mobile device to serve up results based on distance...
