Below is a screen shot of Eugene's local top 10. Reed & Cross has been out of business since 12-31-07 and Ken Gillespie is a home-based florist with no website. I don't understand why those shops are listed and Fairfield is not. Reed & Cross has always ranked well in the past.

It's a little frustrating for me and I don't know what to do to get in. Any advice?

Try editing the business info by clicking on the edit button located on the business listing in google maps. I included a screen shot. You will need to be loged on to your google account.

Good luck!!

Looks like you just recieved your first review!!!

Have you actually submitted your website to google? You do it through google tools or maps (I believe- it's been awhile.) You actually will have to get a phone call from google to make it active.

I just changed my address last week and I show up third in the google search of my zip code.

I just tried to edit AGAIN and ended up creating another listing. Should I delete one of them as they are the same.

I initially created the local listing when it was first posted here on FC a couple of years ago. Google couldn't figure out how to call, so I ended up with postcard after postcard that would not work. At one point I had three postcards with three accounts and nothing worked - so I gave up.

I just deleted everything a couple of months ago and re-created a listing and the phone call worked. The confirmation message said that it would be about four weeks to post it. It shows today that it posted on March 5. It also shows the one I just created posted March 21 (today).

I love Google! (in case they are reading this)

I was just watching a TV program about this. Google is always changing and tweaking the way search is done but the main way they do it is counting links. Every link to your Web Site from another Web Site is like a "vote" for your site. Mayhaps all us "FlowerChatters" should start wildly linking to each other and thusly move us all up in the rankings.

Ummmmm, THE FLOWERCHAT DIRECTORY is another link, one that many many shops do not take advantage of. Take 2 minutes everybody, and add your shop in the directory for one more link to your site :)

tracy

Don't get crazy with the incestuous linking ... it can backfire :) Links matter less for the Local 10 Box, but reviews are a big boost. (Yelp, Citysearch, Yellowpages, etc) A while ago, CHR started the FC Review Brigade which I suggest everyone get in on immediately.

A very key item is to have your business info correct at the source. Google draws most of their business listings from InfoUSA. If they have incorrect info, it can overwrite your updated info in Google Local the next time Google updates from InfoUSA.
