Some interesting bits of info on Google PageRank:

Loosely defined, Google PageRank is a measure of the overall importance of your site based on "votes" (links) from other sites and links within your own site.

  • Google PR as displayed in the Google Toolbar is ranked from 0-10
  • Toolbar PR is updated every 3-4 months on average
  • Real PR is scored from 0-60466176 (6^10)
  • Toolbar PR is a representation of your score in powers of 6:
    • PR0 = Score of 0-5
    • PR1 = 6-35
    • PR2 = 36-215
    • PR3 = 216-1295
    • PR4 = 1296-7775
    • PR5 = 7776-46655
    • PR6 = 46656-279935
    • PR7 = 279936-1679615
    • PR8 = 1679616-10077695
    • PR9 = 10077696-60466175
    • PR10 = 60466176+
  • Some examples from sites we know:
    • FlowerChat.com & FlowerChat.com/forums are PR3
    • FTD.com is a PR7
    • Teleflora.com is a PR6
    • 800Flowers & Proflowers are both PR6
    • Inbloom.com is a PR3
    • The Strider site launched in Feb 08 as a PR0, went to PR5 in the March update, and dropped to PR4 with last week's update
    • The Strider Blog has remained PR4
    • The Real Florists Blog is PR3
    • FloristDetective.com is PR4
    • The Florist 2.0 Demo Site is a PR3
    • FloristBlogs.com is a PR3
Is PageRank really something to be very concerned about? The answer is Yes and No. PageRank as displayed in the Toolbar is what Google wants to reveal, and they readily admit to manipulating the data at will.

However, it is a good indicator of crawling problems within your site. If you have a home page with a PR score and your internal pages have no PR score that's a sign that Google may not be crawling into your site. And that IS something to be very concerned about.

It seemed to be systemic. Very few people went up, lots of reports of sites dropping.

We droped from a 4 to 2 a couple updates ago. I think that was last year. I'll have to check on when my chest pain started.

Anyways we went back up to 3 and most of our subpages are 2s. But to be honest I really don't see any benefit from it. When I was a 4 2 or 3 I still see steady increases in traffic.

Well then again it would be nice if it was more "quality traffic".

Some interesting bits of info on Google PageRank:

Loosely defined, Google PageRank is a measure of the overall importance of your site based on "votes" (links) from other sites and links within your own site...

Google ranks inbound links by quality, relevance, title keyword, anchor keyword and quantity.

In addition, on-page factors such as keywords in the title, anchor keywords, keywords in the body text and general content relevance influence the ranking of a web page.

Yahoo looks at inbound links similar to Google...

Inbound links are also very important in the ranking algorithm of MSN. However, the order is different. MSN analyzes inbound links for quality, anchor keywords, relevance and keywords in the title. The quantity is also weighted not as much as in Yahoo. In addition, MSN looks at keywords in the title, body text and anchors when it comes to on-page factors. General content relevance and the content of the title are also important...

This is what the Google Toolbar looks like:

Go to Google and download the toolbar. Once installed the toolbar is usually displayed near the top of your browser window. It basically is a strip of shortcut buttons. There's an option that allows you to activate the "page rank" feature.

If you hover the pointer over the page rank bar, it will display the rank on a scale of 0 through 10. (Yellow arrows are pointing to the page rank bar, and the actual page rank).

Hope this helps.

Ditto what Darrel said...

The nice thing is the dedicated Google search window, plus the pop-up blocker, the form autofiller, the translation utility, the spelling checker, and the map tool that automatically links addresses in Web pages to maps. Then there's the full integration with the Google suite: Google Earth, Google News, Froogle, Google Maps, Blogger, and others.

Every single one of the integrated tools, including the toolbar itself, is fully customizable.

Note that using advanced features such as PageRank automatically sends the URL of the site you're viewing back to Google's servers. The PageRank feature is optional, and you can enable or disable it at any time through the toolbar's Options button.

But if you're concerned about privacy, Google gives you the option of downloading a version that doesn't report back.

You can even use the Google Toolbar without a Google account. However, considering all that comes with it, why wouldn't you?

:spinThanks LJVF, I have got the google tool bar now but where yours says page rank mine does not have, do i need to pay for this service? Sorry to be a pain

palms unfortunately I'm not at my computer right now so I can't explain in detail. You have to activate the page rank feature. I will explain in more detail later unless someone else does beforehand.

Palms,

  1. Click on the downward arrow on the right side of G Search button on the toolbar
  2. Select "manage" at the bottom
  3. Click on the "more" tab at the top
  4. Check the "PageRank and Page Info" box
  5. Click "ok"

Darrel, thanks for the step by step instruction. It worked!!! That was so kind of you to take the time.

I have a page ranking of 2 yet i am the fourth website of the first page when i put in my town and flowers. Internal pages are ranked at 1.

My page rank is 5 with internal shopping pages ranking a 4. I guess that's all good. Never paid attention to this before.
